On an weekend trip to Belfast we enjoyed an excellent meal, with starters, main meals, bottle of wine and complementary drinks all for under £50 for two. The food was first class (as good as it gets). Would definitely go again.

We used to be frequent customers of the Jharna but to be honest we stopped going not because of the food or the staff but because of the sticky carpet and tired decor. It just didn't have a nice "special" ambiance. We defected to the Bengal Brasserie on the Ormeau Road.

Yesterday however, when I was searching this site, I read the current batch of reviews for the Jharna mentioning the makeover and we booked a table for last night. As I said in the title WOW. The change in the decor is beautiful. It's quite contemporary but decorated in colours which still reflect the colours of India. There is a more warmth in the place now and moving the waiting/bar area to the centre makes the room seem more intimate than previously.

Now the most important thing is the food and we weren't disappointed. It was still of the same high standard as before. There was plenty of choice on the menu and we were particularly impressed when the waiter advised that the starter my husband wanted was unavailable and was to be removed from the menu because they had consistently found it difficult to source good quality squid. The waiter explained that they didn't want to serve substandard food. The food we did order was very tasty and we were happy with the portion sizes and the fact that the waiter asked my husband how spicy he wanted the Karahi dish he had ordered. Customer preference is obviously very important to them.

All in all we will return and would highly recommend the Jharna to anyone.

Having been sorely disappointed by Indian restaurants in the past, Jharna was a breath of fresh air. The restaurant is decorated in a contemporary style and has great ambience - we had a lovely table beside the open fireplace. The menu is superb with something to cater for all tastes (including my mum who doesn't like spicy food). Portion sizes are exactly right and the staff were very friendly and attentive. Highly recommended!

Recently visited this restaurant while on a trip to Belfast. I was really impressed with The Jharna. It had a nice atmosphere, even though it was a little busy but we had a nice table. The decor is very modern, not your typical indian feel, but still has a nice feel. The staff were very friendly. The food was lovely, we had a mixed tandorri platter for 2 for starters, it could have been presented a little nicer and a bit more variety but overall it was nice. The main dishes were fab, only that the rice portion is a little small. Price was pretty reasonable - 72stg for 2 starter,2 main with rice & bread & 2 bottles of wine! Would recommend this restaurant for Indian food lovers...
