I currently work in Scotland and we came over to Belfast with colleagues to go to a Rod Stewart concert in the Oydessy, which is only a short walk from the Europa. We had a few drinks in the piano bar in the first floor which was overlooking the busy street below. The rooms were very comfortable and very spacious and also the staff were very friendly.
I would definitely recommend this hotel and look forward to staying there again.

We spent two nights in the 4 star Belfast Europa Hotel. The room was adequate although very small. It was stiflingly hot and the only ventilation was a 4" X 8" window. We asked at reception for a fan and were told they had no fans. Staff was rude and condescending. We sweltered in the room for two nights. We were also very suprised when told we were expected to pay for WIFI. We'd been traveling already for two weeks in Ireland and NO where were we expected to pay for WIFI. Europa made you feel like you were being nickeled and dimed to death. The restaurant, "The Brassierie", had adequate food. Staff again was very rude and unfriendly. We never received a smile from anyone. Breakfast was the worst meal of the day. I can honestly say it was the most poorly prepared and presented buffet we'd been served. On another note the concierges were some of the best we've ever encountered. The rest of the staff should be given hospitality lessons from them. Oh yes...don't forget to ask about parking. There is a hefty charge for parking. The hotes does not provide any parking for its guests. Again the nickel and dime mentality. Sorry to say we would never stay in this hotel again.

Dear Sir/Madam,

First of all I woul like to thank you for choosing Hastings Europa Hotel. It is great to hear your comments on our concierge team. We value as much our positive and negative feedback as it is only through your candid feedback that we can continue, improve and if not exceed the expectations of all our guests.
i am very disheartened to hear that the customer service experienced in our other departments, notably our Front Office and Causerie Restaurant Teams were not of the same caliber. We at Hastings believe that a smile goes a long way and it saddens me, on this occasion that this was not the case. Please be assured I have brought all of your concerns to the attention of the relevant Department Managers in order to prevent future reoccurrences.
I have also taken note of your concerns with regards to the wi-fi and this will be taken on board and as you rightly say, we do not have our own car parking facilities and therefore have no control over the costs not unlike other city centre hotels.
Thank you once again for your comments, they have been a great help.

Four of us (adults) stayed in the Europa for city break. From the time I called them to the time we left the staff were terrific. When I was making the phone booking, Suzie was very pleasant and obliging. When we arrived the concierge was very professional, polite and friendly. The bar staff and restaurant staff were the same. The porters/Taxi staff too. They looked up exact addresses for us, and then mapped them for us. I never felt as if they were just buttering us up for tips, as happens quite frequently now. They seemed like genuinely pleasant people who enjoyed their jobs.

However, I have a few negatives also. The room was clean, but there were some old stains on the carpet, which could have been effectively covered with a mat or rug from same carpet material. Also, there is a frosted glass door into the bathroom, and this needs to be added to the list for daily cleaning by housekeeping. The different notices (No Smoking, etc) in the room were quite battered and probably could be replaced from a stockpile! They just took from the room a little, other wise it was spacious, clean, and fresh. I really like that the windows open to let in fresh air.

When we had dinner in the restaurant, the waiting staff cleared some plates from a nearby table and then left them at a central workspace near us. Later they were brought into kitchen. However, I have worked in several hostelries as a student and we were always told never to leave dirty ware near other diners. Either leave it where it is or bring it straight to the kitchen, when you get the time. I know it's only a small thing, but it makes a difference. Also, at the breakfast buffet, there is a large container left near the tea and coffee machines, for old teabags and "slops", and really this should be covered in or done AWAY from the area where people get their tea and coffee.

On the plus side, they provide a very good breakfast with Bushmills whisky available to help flavour your porridge!
Complimentary newspapers are always very welcome, and there were plenty of them.

Overall, there is a very nice atmosphere in the hotel, and there were interesting groups coming and going all the time, and yet it was not noisy, and there is an air of calmness about. There certainly was no rough behaviour while we were there.

So, the bottom line is that despite my (constructive, I hope!) criticism, I would recommend this hotel. It is very convenient for shops etc. The staff are definitely a very strong asset.

Hotel was amazing! Spotless, very comfortable bed, great location, satelite tv, lovely staff. Room a bit small but comfortable. Very modern and elegantly furnished. Lives up to its reputation - worthy of 5* rating.

My husband and I are just back from a weekend break to visit friends in belfast, we chose the Europa as our base as it is well situated within belfast town centre and has a well known reputation for being one of the best hotels in Belfast.
We enjoyed out stay but there were a few things that we found around the hotel did not conform to our expectations. These might be slightly higher than most peoples because I work in this very industry, but most things i`ll comment on are basics within hospitality.
We felt the staff were efficient, well presented but lacked warmth when dealing with us,
The staff in the restaurant seemed harrassed at breakfast and dinner, other than asking for our room number there was no other communication, just basic "the buffets over there" style conversation. Dinner was fine, food very nice but again staff member telling me they`ve just worked a 12 hour shift and they are knackered is not what i want to hear when i`m out for a romantic evening with my husband. I appreiciate a hotel is a very busy place but a smile or acknowledgement goes a long way!!
Our room was ok, lovely super kingsize bed, tv etc was fine but the bathroom was clean to a certain degree ( splash marks on the tiles behind the bath, red dye on the bathrobe and a damp smell about the room) made me feel like the room had been given a "Lick and a Promise" type clean.
We enjoyed our stay and understand it is the peak season for holiday makers but basic housekeeping, training of staff in customer service is vital in a Industry such as Hospitality. This hotel is living on past history, it may have refurbished the looks of the hotel but it has forgotten the very essence of hospitality - Good Customer Service and Good Housekeeping.
