“Good choice in Belfast”
Reviewed 3 September 2013

I stayed one night at The Camera and it was great. It is in a great location, not too far from the city centre (20-25 minutes to Great Victoria Station - or 20 to The Crown) in a safe and quiet neighbourhood. There are supermarkets, banks, a club, some restaurants and fast food joints and a couple of pubs (check out Ryan's, practically just around the corner on Lisburn Road) a stone's throw away.
More pluses: rooms are quite big (I was in a twin), tidy, clean and properly mantained (the loo was probably fitted a bit too quickly and there was a hole next to it too big for the pipes that ran though it, but nevermind. There's free wifi, which is also great. The hostess is excellent, as is the breakfast and all the care and attention they lavish upon you.
If you're coming by car there's ample free street parking both on Wellington Park and adjacent streets.
All in all, a reasonably priced, first quality nice little b&b. Will definitely go back!

We stayed one night at the Camera House and had a fine time. The B&B recently changed owners and was in need of some updating which we were told was going to happen. The room was clean and the breakfast was good. We had to park on the street which was OK for us, but I could see how it could be a problem.

This B&B is located by Lisburn road coming out of Belfast city center. You can walk to the city centre in 20 minutes. I found Lisburn road to be safe during the day without any problem. A taxi from the city airport was 12 pounds. A taxi to the city centre was 5 pounds.

I got a room with a shower and a small sink, and a shared bathroom in the hall. The room faced a side street and it was fairly quiet during the nights. The rooms curtains were light and did not work well for keeping the light out so I needed to use a sleeping mask over my eyes. The B&B is strangely quiet, I could only hear the people in the room next to me, I was surprised every morning when there were lots of people down in the breakfast area and I had heard no one. But you will hear the people next door very well instead.

The room felt clean and spacious for one person. The shower both in my private and the shared bathroom had very low pressure. Also there was a small flat screen TV in the room but it was placed so high on the wall it was impossible to see it when lying in the bed.
The service was good, the girls making breakfast were friendly and helpful. Be sure to be down early for breakfast as some parts could run out.

I had a nice stay for 2 nights at this B&B. Staff was friendly and helpful. I was in a single room with shared bath and the price was right. It is located around the corner from a large university and the parking situation is atrocious if you arrive during the day (they only have "on street" parking) but after 5 pm it is OK. My room was quiet and clean (basic) and the shared bath across the hall was clean but not luxurious. You can tell the neighborhood was once comprised of stately, high end row homes but it has given way to a lot of carved up student apartments ---some in pretty rough shape--but others well maintained single family homes (and a few businesses). I found the location quiet and convenient (once I found a parking spot I left the car there for the entire time and walked or took buses). I would stay here again.

Stayed 2 nights at camera guest house. Initially thought area was rather run down with derelict houses in street, but it got better as you drove further down street. Our hosts were not available on arrival but there was a note with instructions to let ourselves in make ourselves at home. Room was small but adequate. Twin beds were comfortable and thankfully a decent pillow. Unfortunately our bathroom needed upgrading. I think the water worked on a pump and was quite noisy when you showered and flushed the toilet. There was a sizeable hole in the floor near the piping. Somewhere to hang your towel would be great. Parking was easy and always available close to guesthouse. Breakfast was very nice.

Manager was pleasant. Fairly centrally locate. Room was dated and musty. No hair dryers. One outlet high on wall so tough to charge phones etc. bathroom worse than ones I had in college. Noisy plumbing, bad lighting, no hooks to hang towels or anything else, tiny shower, low sink makes it hard to wash face. Felt like places I stayed in long ago in my teens and twenties. Peaceful neighborhood though.

i'm not a hotel inspector so i didnt go round checking for faults,it was a budget hotel, it was perfect for me and i will definitely go back and reccommend it to anyone wanting to stay in belfast.

Theres buses running every 10/15 mins to the centre of belfast, theres bars and places to eat along lisburn road, i didnt get to explore much but there were a few places i fancied trying.

upon booking my room at short notice for a one night stay in Belfast, i received my confirmation.
i didnt look much at the hotel before i booked and never really have done.
the morning i was due to travel Brie (the new manager) asked me to give her a call to get directions to the hotel from the airport (i had researched but not much detailed information on travel was available at the time).
she was very helpful and went well out her way to give me directions and make allowances for my cirumstances. i was visiting for the embassy and she even knew what i needed to have with me. very helpful when your stressing about having to travel so far for a short interview to which your career relies upon.

i found the guest house very easily thanks to Brie's directions and was pleasantly surprised when arriving at how sweet the house looked from the front, well kept gardens, with bushes along the front for privacy.

I was warmly greeted by Brie who showed me into the first of the big front living rooms with high ceilings and maps and guides available to take for information on the city and things to do.
A basic but contemporary styled homely house. somewhere you could picture making a beautiful place to call your own.

The other room opposite was the breakfast room with a log filled fire place, bare wood floors throughout and kitsch furniture with optional cereals, and other items for breakfast.

upon getting to my room i was showed the shared bathroom, informed of how many people i would be sharing with which is helpful to know and didnt bother me in the slightest. a good sized bathroom with bath and shower over bath.

my room was a single, very nice pine furniture, felt quite cottagey and made me feel at home. towels, kettle, tea/coffe.milk, a sink with hand soap and a digital tv.

comfy bed with nice white bedding, had a good nights sleep ready for the embassy the following morning. the room was clean and pleasant.

breakfast was served from 7:30, lovely room and was served straight away and very quickly received my drink, soon after my ulster fry up.
the breakfast was delicious, irish sausage is my new favourite.
one of each item was just enough for me, but they were very open to meeting anyone's requirements. toast, jam, ceral, yoghurt and juices were all available too and best of all was included in the price! some places would charge you £7/8 on top for a fry up!

check out was 10am but Brie was kind enough to let me check out late at no extra cost as i would be late back from my interview.
She treat me as a friend and i havn't any plans to go back to belfast just yet, but i will find a reason to and i will be going to camera house (if they arent fully booked as they get booked up quick....so they must be doing something right!)

i would certainly reccommend this place, they try so hard to please every customer and make them feel so welcome, only taking over fairly recently i feel they did an amazing job and make an amazing addition to the guest house.

Thankyou so much Brie and Co!

Ashleigh
