Am just back from a weekend away in this hotel, booked on the strengh of the excellent reviews on this site. While it is certainly a nice hotel with an excellent leisure centre, we were disappointed with a couple of things. The main thing was the restaurant. We had booked a package which included an evening meal. The restaurant menu on the website looks excellent but there is a small note to say that it can be substituted by a carvery. There was a carvery on the evening that we were there and it was very disappointing. You had to help yourself to starter, main and dessert. The starters were cold salads, the mains were basic carvery, just like a Sunday lunch in a pub. We expected much better based on the fact that it is a 4-star hotel and the reviews on this site. I wouldn't go again if I knew that the food and service would be of such a poor standard.
The only other gripe was that the seats in the bar were like cafe seats, not at all comfortable, you wouldn't be tempted to sit down there at all.
Apart from the above everything was fine. The standard of the restaurant really let everyting else down.More
