A great hotel in a wonderful location, close to the university and many good restaurants, yet easily walkable to the center of town. The rooms are modern, with lovely big beds. The patio is great for drinks or dinner on a summer night.

We stayed over the Easter weekend this year and it was great value. Front desk and bar staff were really nice and helpful with recommendations of places to eat and visit. The room was well appointed but the view was just into other buildings so nothing special. It is a short walk from the city centre and be careful with parking as there is no dedicated hotel parking - just on street parking.

We had a less than positive experience with the night porter when we were looking to have a drink with cousins who by chance were staying at another hotel and paid us a visit. They were not allowed to enter the hotel as it was too late for the rules around the resident's bar - but that was not the issue. The tone and behaviour of the night porter in explaining this left a lot to be desired and could have been handled apologetically rather than the "Stalinist" approach we endured.

Room Tip: Try to get a room that does not look back into other buildings

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights whilst visiting friends in Belfast and doing some sightseeing. The room (211) was gorgeous, not a great view but very quiet as it was at the back of the hotel on the top floor so we were never disturbed with noise. The bath was lovely and deep and the rain shower was great. The room had everything we needed - we asked for an iron and it had been sent up to the room within minutes. Little things like biscuits with your tea/coffee making facilities and luxury toiletries made it more welcoming. The ladies on reception were really helpful and friendly; they advised us of the best ways to get to places and booked tickets/taxis for us when we needed them. Equally, the men behind the bar were really friendly and made some good cocktails for us and advised us of other good bars in the area to visit. The breakfast was good; plenty of it and quick service. Our only complaint would be that their free wifi didn't quite reach as far as our room so we could only use it in the lounge/bar...but that's nothing really! I would totally recommend staying here as the Botanic Gardens and Ulster museum are just around the corner, and it's only a 15min walk to the city centre. There are plenty of other bars and restaurants in the area - we went to a few student bars such as The Fly and Madisons (which both do £3 cocktails before 11pm). We also went to The Empire for a comedy night which was quite good, although they also have a bar downstairs which plays live music and it's only a 2min walk from the hotel. If we come back to Belfast we would definitely stay here again and would encourage anyone else thinking of staying here to do so - it's suitable for couples and families old and young and there is plenty in the area for every taste.

Room Tip: Room 211 was very quiet - but don't pick it if you like a nice view as it looks out over some ro...

The Dukes calls itself "boutique" which to my experience can mean most anything - in this case it turned out to be the best hotel, we stayed in on our entire tour of Eire and Northern Ireland. It is just south of the city cntre, close to the delightful botanic gardens and the new Ulster Mueseum. The room we stayed in was spacious and beautifully decorated, the breakfast delicious and as we also took advantage of the dinner option, we also found the restaurant capable of serving a decent dinner meal as well.

God location, very near botanical garden and Ulster museum. Round the corner are a great selection of restaurants for all tastes.

Hotel rooms are very spacious. Well kitted out.

The hotel is a bit tired but clean and still looks good for a city stay.

Hotel kitchen closed at 8.45pm so after this no room service either. You can get them to order in a take away or you can go and get it yourself and the hotel will give you plate and cutlery and you can east it in your room.

The bed I slept in was soft but the pillows were really full and hard. We did ask for softer pillows but we were given more of the same.

Room Tip: We stayed on the second floor r207. Good spacious room, looked out to front of hotel, little noise.

I would highly recommend this hotel. The room we stayed in was one of the nicest rooms I've stayed in (room 206). The bed was very difficult to leave and the shower was fabulous. The breakfast was very tasty as was the evening meal we had in our room the first day we arrived. The hotel bar was plush and elegant. In terms of the location the area was very nice about five mins taxi drive from town (£6). Free street parking outside the hotel (we stayed over the weekend).

Thanks to the advice from someone from Belfast we headed out to the Cathedral Quarter - good bars; Dukes of York (great atmosphere people drinking on the street), The Spaniard (good music downstairs but go upstairs for DJ) The John Hewitt Bar (Sunday night live music with Spanish guitarists and singers), The Cloth Ear.

On the Sunday we took a tourist bus around the city - very interesting and well worth the £12.50 each. Make sure to ask at reception as the tourist bus company will send a free shuttle bus to collect you at the hotel and bring you to the departure stop. A very good service.

For shopping head for the Victoria Square shopping centre - a shoppers dream!!

Room Tip: Room 206. We booked through booking.com

My partner and I had been looking for hotels in Belfast and were actually going to stay somewhere else, until we found The Dukes: cheaper and just as good, we gave it a try. Oh, we were not disappointed!

The service is extremely friendly, especially at the reception, they were all very nice, smiley and helpful - did not meet the housekeeper but the job was very well done too; the room was very comfortable and clean, and so was the toilet. Ipod station and speakers and little chocolate and tea cookies were just a plus. The breakfast was very basic, true, as there`s not much to choose from in the buffet that is mainly cereals and yoghurt, but the cooked meals you can order will not leave you hungry, don`t worry. And for the price, it is well worth it! And the restaurant was nicely decorated.

The only thing I would say is maybe if you do not like walking you might need to think twice, but it is not like the hotel is far from everything, no! It is very well located, near plenty of restaurants, pubs and shops and not far from the main places you`ll need to go. We walked everywhere and it was just fine, but I do know that there are some people who cannot be bothered walking for 5 minutes.

If I`m ever back in Belfast, I`ll be staying there again for sure.
