Just returned from a two night stay at Somerton House with my husband and son. We visited Belfast to celebrate our son's 30th Birthday. Somerton House is a bed and breakfast establishment but we were made to feel at home by Mannix. Our rooms were clean and very comfortable. Our son had a single room at the top of the house - no.8. For a single room it was very spacious and light and the shower room large and my son said was equipped with a power shower. We travelled by air to Belfast George Best airport and travelled to Somerton House by taxi. Mannix informed us that there were good bus services to the city centre and on purchase from the bus driver of an all day ticket at the princely sum of £3 per person we could travel on buses til midnight. We lunched at the Lansdowne Hotel - a few minutes walk from Somerton House - the meal was not expensive and delicious - so much so that we dined again on the second night! The main purpose of our trip was to visit Titanic Belfast. We cannot recommend this too highly. We had booked tickets on-line and collected them on Tuesday from the Titanic Exhibition Hall. Our tour took us three and a half hours plus a stop for tea and scones in the Titanic tea rooms - excellent! The only downside to our visit was the weather which unfortunately cannot be pre-booked, was very very wet. As our flight wasn't until early afternoon, after vacating our rooms Mannix put the very comfortable lounge at our disposal and kept us supplied with tea and biscuits! Mannix booked us a local taxi to take us to the airport. Thank you Mannix.

Room Tip: En-suite rooms recommend.

Might be a bit away from center of Belfast, but we had a car, so it wasn't an issue for us at all. Close to the causeway coastal route, so that's a bonus, even though we didn't have time to take the trip. The house the B&B is in is a beautiful old and large building. High ceilings and tall doors gives you a real impression of space. Our room was furnished with beautiful classic furniture in matching oak and had tasteful decorations and was very comfortable. The bathroom also held a high standard. The breakfast was very good and the breakfast room was lovely. The B&B also had great features such as a lounge with magazines and DVDs and the free wi-if was easy to use and had a good signal throughout the entire house. Service was personal and accommodating. I would definitely recommend a stay at the Somerton House to anyone in the area!

During our two night stay at Somerton House, we found the facilities disappointing. After travelling almost all around Ireland and staying in wonderful B&B's, we found that Somerton House was less than satisfactory. The sign outside says that this facility has been in existence since 1965, and by the looks of it, it has never been updated. Although clean, the rooms are bleak with very narrow beds and poor mattresses. The sky light window in our attic room would not snap shut and stay shut. You could push it open with your finger. The breakfasts were not good, the fried eggs hard and cold and the bacon overcooked. From the time we ordered to the time we received it was probably only a few minutes, making us think that the food had been prepared ahead of time and kept "warm". The proprietor, Mannix and his son Mannix Jr. were very pleasant.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Somerton House. Mannix and the rest of the staff were very helpful, directing us on the walking route to the Belfast Castle for a meal and calling cabs for two other trips. The breakfast was abundant and delicious. Very reasonably priced.

My wife and I stayed for one night and found the accommodation and proprietors excellent! Ideal location for Belfast Zoo and Castle and close to the City Centre if you want it but in a quiet location if you don't. I would recommend this B&B and definitely stay there again!

Somerton House is a quietly located, large, traditional B&B within easy reach of Belfast city centre. It is located in a peaceful, respectable area very near the ferry port and a good night's sleep is assured. Upon arrival off a late ferry, with my motorbike, I was welcomed by Mannix, the owner, and offered a space off-road on the front forecourt. As I was staying 3 nights I was allocated a double room by Mannix who was a very amenable and informative host during my pleasant stay. I would recommend this B&B to bikers as it is run in a very professional manner and lies on the north side of the city so it's perfectly situated for touring the Antrim coast. Breakfasts are great and cooked to order, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the accommodation is good value. It was my first trip to Belfast and I found the locals to be very friendly and down-to-earth and the city has plenty of culture to explore as well as great bars and eateries. The striking new Titanic Museum is spectacular and a must!
