Decided to have tea out and we thought we would go local. The hotel has recently been refurbished so we were looking forward to seeing the changes! Nice face lift, but sadly there is zero atmosphere, and food was extremely mediorce. As usual no staff in lower bar to serve customers a drink! This is going to be an expensive waste of money if they can't attract customers in. Need to infuse some life into the place.

The Ivanhoe has was originally a pub which a number of years ago was extended to become a hotel. It was becoming a 'bit tired' in terms of decor and the food was basic 'pub grub'. With so much competition in recent years we very rarely went there as the other restaurants in the area were more attractive. However, over the last few months they have completely renovated the bar and restaurant area, both inside and out, and are continuing to work on the hotel.

As they had done so much work we decided to visit it and see if it had improved. In simple terms it has gone through a total transformation. The new bistro area, which replaces 2 of the old lounges, is absolutely beautiful. The old multi-level areas have gone and been replaced with a bright, spacious layout which is very pleasantly decorated and all on one level which is much better for customers with disabilities

The staff were very friendly however the only issue remaining is that the food is very much the same as before i.e. typical pub grub which is not in keeping with the very high standard of decor. I have heard they are trying to recruit new chefs and if this is successful this will become a top class venue for lunch and dinner.

Well done Ivanhoe, and if the food comes up to the expected standard we will be regular visitors in future.

went for lunch with my mum. Am always impressed at how they do a pensioner lunch at reduced rate. Great value. The food was nice but the batter on the cod was a bit soft and the chips were more end bits than fat chips. I think with the new décor, which is wonderful, the food should reflect that and hard bits of chips doesn't look so good. The staff were very attentive and friendly. I will be back but not having the cod or chips.

Have to say the new look Bistro is beautiful long overdue and I really hope it pays off.

Staff are always lovely as is the majority of the food.

Been in twice since the renovations of old bar/new bistro has been completed.

First time I had chicken Gourgon's Second time opted for Cod - one slight disappointment is the batter. It's very soft as if not cooked. To be honest I forgot about it after having the gourgons last month but over weekend when I ordered the cod as soon as it arrived I knew to look at it. Strange thing is someone in the party ordered the burger which came with French fried onion rings which I am told were lovely and crispy.

Apart from this highly recommend for good food, lovely décor and excellent staff.

Would be interested to know how the batter is made???

As a treat I took my 17 year old son to this lovely bistro. The new surroundings are delightful and we could easily have stayed for hours just relaxing and chatting. I had the build a burger which would have melted in your mouth and had no greasy aftertaste. Hugh, the barman was quick to inform me that the burger was also on as a special. My son had the chicken strips and he agreed they were up to their usual high standard. The young waitress, Grace, was charming and prompt in serving the meal. Once again after all these years and changes, we haven't been disappointed. Well done, Ivanhoe!!

The hotel is just out of the City, but convenient for visits in and around Belfast. The main road runs past close outside and is usually busy and noisey with some speed demons out there, take care. The double glazing keeps out the noise, but book a room at the back if you want the window open

It is a small and well run hotel with spacious and pleasant rooms all of a very modern standard. The restaurant has been upgraded and appeared popular; the bar is a real bonus with friendly staff and cheerful clientele.

If you haven't booked breakfast it is chargeable per item - juice - coffee - toast so a full breakfast can work out a lot more than the pre-booked price. Also the hot breakfast is not a buffet.

All in all a pleasant and reasonable place to stay for a short visit.

Room Tip: Main road is busy and noisey. Ask for a room at the rear if you sleep with the windows open.

We visited the Ivanhoe today and had a lovely meal. We loved the renovations and the meal was the good usual Ivanhoe standard! When we arrived the young waitresses were doing a fantastic job showing people to their table, take orders, bring food etc. Shortly after we finished our meal a lady arrived who has worked in the Ivanhoe for years. This manager's attitude to the staff was terrible. She commented to customers how it wasn't the same since renovations. I suggest that she considers her position very seriously and perhaps it is time for her to leave as her attitude to staff in front of customers is not acceptable. The staff were doing a great job and did not need to be spoken to in the manner that they were.
