“Brilliant Weekend!”
Reviewed 25 January 2009

We have just returned from a lovely weekend in Belfast with Friends, and to visit close family who live there. They recommended Ten Square to us and we were not dissappointed. After checking with the hotel that we were getting the best rate I booked on-line and at £89 per night we were more than satisfied.
We took an early morning flight from London and arrived at the hotel at just after 9.30am, the friendly young lady on reception took our luggage to store until the room was ready, she then gave us loads of advice on what to do for the rest of the day and gave us city guides so we could get our bearings.
The hotel is directly behind City Hall and we spent the morning wandering around nearby and going for a ride on the Belfast Eye. We had Guinness & Irish stew for Lunch in The Crown (a wonderful olde pub). Again the staff here were so helpful and booked us a "Black Cab Tour" which picked us up from right outside. You MUST do this tour it was so interesting and informative (our driver Mick, was again very friendly).
He dropped us back to the hotel and we were show to our rooms (307 & 305), both really lovely rooms. We had booked just the standard rooms, but were extremely surprised by the size and little extras which were included. Massive beds, large vase of fresh lillies, large towels, dressing gowns, slippers, tes & coffee making, flat screen TV. we had chocolates on the pillows and the turn down service! (yes there is a little lip on the edge of the bed & I too cracked my knee once, but hey, I we had drunk 3 bottles of champagne that night).
The bar area is trendy and very atmospheric (dark and moody), and was very lively on Saturday evening, the restaurant is similarly decorated and the food was very good. (I had a fillet steak which was cooked to perfection!).
Saturday morning our men went off to play golf, and my girl friend and I ordered Breakfast in the room for a lazy girly morning!
sunday morning we ate breakfast in the restaurant (a little late, so they had run short of a few things), full Ulster was delicious (I'm told) and my Smoked Salmon and scrambled egg was to die for!.
Reception area and corridors are a little dark and they have candles and fires to add to the modern contemporary, and relaxing mood.
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and will be back without a doubt. I only wish I could afford to stay in on of the mini suites for a romantic weekend the next time. (I will add photos soon)

This hotel is a dark dismal place where a torch is required to walk the brown papered bedroom corridors. No wonder the numbers on the doors are raised - you would never know you had found your room otherwise!
My bedroom was cold and the decor was an unimaginative beige and brown. The only way of heating the room was to turn on an extremely noisy fan. The television required 2 remote controls to make it work and the mini-bar was stocked with over-priced bottled water at £4 per bottle! The 'turn-down' service (why on earth do hotels still provide this useless service - surely even the most stupid person knows how to get in to bed!) did provide a free bottle of water however.
The room service charged a £5 tray service and although the burger was good the salad was a disgrace consisting of a chopped up lettuce leaf and some slices of dismal tomato and cucumber. The bed sat on a platform and I wondered how many people have knocked their shins on the edges.
The cooked breakfast as OK - in particular the sausage - but the fruit salad consisted mainly of sliced apple, they could not provide any sweetners and pop music was playing rather loudly.
Altogether an unhappy miserable experience. I am back to Tara Lodge next time - it is THE BEST!!!

  • Liked — Staff except for the breakfast waitress were very helpful; breakfast sausage
  • Disliked — Everything else!

Another fantastic stay at my favourite hotel in Belfast. As a regular visitor to Belfast and to Ten Square it pains me to read such misleading reviews of this fine hotel. I am always made to feel so welcome when I stay. A real home away from home. There is something reassuring when you are on the road for work that when you check in into a hotel, the staff remember your name, what you like for breakfast, the little special touches in the room. It certainly makes this weary traveller feel welcome. Having stayed at many fine (and some not so) hotels across the UK and Ireland, Ten Square is certainly way up there. I am just suprised that some people just don't get it. Maybe they are just unhappy people.

This hotel under delivers in everyway. In most respects its a busy pub and bistro with bedrooms. The bar staff are surly and unfriendly, reception are forgetful ( iam still waiting on toilet paper) but if you want a nice grilled steak then it delivers. Its a shame that the property markets itslef as a grand hotel - be honest with youself and call it as it is, reasonably spacious rooms in a great location with fast food and fast atmosphere.

Before we arrived, the hotel called us to let us know they had an event on over the weekend we were staying. They said it might be a bit noisy, but they were upgrading our room. We arrived late on a Friday, checked in with no problems and were stunned by one of the best rooms either of us have stayed in. The staff were helpful and the food was good - we thought we were on to a winner. That evening, it was a little noisy, nothing too bad or unexpected for a city centre hotel. The following evening we arrived back in our room at 11:45pm to find the floor vibrating from the event occurring directly below our room. A call to reception at midnight asking for the volume to be reduced achieved nothing. This went on until 1am. What could have been a great stay was ruined by this total lack of regard for residents. Ten Square needs to decide if it is a luxury hotel, with the focus on the residents who choose to stay their and pay for the privilege or if it is a late night party venue. We visit Belfast twice a year and will not be staying at Ten Square again.

Stayed here last year and then again in April 08 when it looked tired but the staff were fab! On check out last month the receptionist told me that they now have new owners, what a difference, clean reception and restaurant, with nice lighting and candles, my room had a new carpet and a nice new TV, yeah there are a few tweaks still needed, but good job new owners and your staff are great and totally customer focused!!
