“Fantastic hotel”
Reviewed 23 May 2012

We stayed in the Friel Suite at the beginning of May 2012. The rooms were superb, as were the staff. The hotel is in a great location for shopping and the cocktails need to be sampled! I can highly reccomend the tasting menu in the restaurant. Fantastic hotel highly deserving of its star rating. Perfect retreat for a weekend with a lovely spa. Cannot compliment the staff enough. Hope to be back soon.

I booked this hotel in April for 2 nights to celebrate my husbands birthday as a special treat and treat is exactly what we got!!!! Such luxury and top notch service this hotel offers and as the saying goes "you get what you pay for" and we certainly did! Special mention for the service we received in both the Great Room and the adjoining bar "the Cloth Ear" as all that they do for you just makes the experience more luxurious - also special mention to the faboulus service in the Christian Louboutin boutique as the man couldnt have been nicer or more helpful, letting me try the gorgeous works of art on even tho i was just "window shopping"!!!;-) This was our 2nd visit to the hotel (we stayed also 2 years ago) and on this occasion we stayed in the art decco room which is very spacious and modern with a large wetroom which included separate shower area as well as stand alone bath - gorge!!! The victorian room is beautiful also but decorated much darker in colour (very sumptious tho!) and good bit smaller than art deco! In my opinion when you pay for a 5 star hotel you expect great surroundings and exceptional customer service and thats what we got - My husband and I made wonderful memories here to treasure! thankyou:-)

arrived on sunday afternoon to the merchant hotel & from the moment we arrived our experience was just 5 star.... our bedroom was 104 which is one of 7 bedrooms in the old part of the hotel & this was just luxurious.. we had afternoon tea & had dinner that evening in the hotel & both were just top notch.... but it was at the little things that the hotel excelled from the turndown at night to the sweets left in the car the following day for our journey home.... we will definitely be back.

Just back from a weekend at the Merchant Hotel. Wow is all I can say! Like the majority of posts on TA, it really is a super hotel, from the minute you walk in to the time you leave. We stayed in an art deco room and it was great, it was very spacious, bright and clean. The bathroom in particular was fab. We ate in the Great Room restaurant both for breakfast and for dinner, and the food and service was great. The hotel is in a buzzy area with bars and restaurants all within walking distance. Only negative aspect was when I booked our stay, some 3 months ago, I was charged in full on my visa card and they state on their confirmation email that you cant cancel, change dates or get a refund which I feel isn't fair. We booked a package deal with them and I understand that they only charge in full for their packages but just make sure if you go with this, that you dont mind paying in full and not being able to amend your dates or get a refund later on. But apart from that, it really is a lovely hotel, expensive but so worth it for a special treat.

Wow!!!!!!!!!!! Stayed in The Merchant 5 years ok when it was just the old Ulster Bank building and loved it, i thought they wouldnt be able to improve it by extending it but i was wrong. They have managed to mix the beautiful old building and the modern extension seamlessly. My husband and i were there to celebrate my 40th birthday, and really enjoyed our stay. The staff are very professional but still manage to be friendly and approachable. Only compliant was our breakfast was slightly spoiled as we felt neglected, you cant help but be bowled over by the fantasic "Great Room" where breakfast is served, and although when we first arrived we were seated and order taken very quickly, but after that we had to repeatly ask for things and in the end gave up and left without ever getting our requests. Perhaps they were just a bit short staffed that morning so i would not let this part of our stay lessen what was a magnificant experience.

This by far is one of my favourite hotels! It has excellent service, with delicious food and elegant rooms. The Rolls Royce, at a very small extra charge, makes your stay memorable! I would recommend this for the romantic, stylish couple with a bit of money to spend.

This is a wonderful hotel primarily because of the employees who unabashedly and successfully seek to satisfy their guests' needs.  More particularly, Danielle at the front desk and the concierge, Dave, who took our bags, parked the car, secured a guide and generally made our two day stay enjoyable, contributed substantially to this hotel's five star rating.  The hotel is a converted bank building with additional buildings. It is centrally located to shopping and within walking distance of the Titanic exhibit.  The hotel's Grand Room restaurant and its wait-staff are also outstanding.  The restaurant has ceiling friezes which are not to be missed and sumptuous seating spaciously positioned.  But what is really outstanding is the food--at least 4 1/2 star quality.  Because of our schedule, we ate at the restaurant twice for dinner and can attest to its consistent quality.  The venison and lamb were both beautifully prepared as were the crab and scallop appetizers.  Our waitress on the first evening was Renata.  She was particularly helpful in suggesting appropriate wines and her bubbly personality revived us.   Finally, we stayed in the older part of the hotel.  While the room was adequate in terms of furniture and size, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom large, and, most importantly, it was absolutely quiet except for the Albert Memorial bell in the distance announcing the hour.  In sum, a most enjoyable stay and I heartily recommend it to fellow travelers.
