Owner description: The Crumlin Road Gaol dates back to 1845 and closed it's doors as a working prison in 1996. After extensive renovations the gaol has re opened as a visitor attraction and conference centre. Today you can take a guided tour of the prison and hear about the history of the site from when women and children were held within it's walls through to the political segregation of republican and loyalist prisoners and learn about why the decision was taken to close the prison.During the tour of the gaol you will be taken by your tour guide to visit the underground tunnel that used to connect the gaol to the Crumlin Road Courthouse, you will get a chance to sit in the Governor's chair, view all the wings from the circle and of course pay a visit to the condemned mans cell before seeing the execution cell where the majority of the 17 men were hanged.

The guided tour gives a very clear understanding of prison life during Ireland's troubled history. The processing room, tunnel across to the court house, the cells, how the male political prisoners were mixed together with children and women and the execution cell with noose and trap door all create a memorable experience.

Not one of my favorite places I've been, not exiting, but definitely different. Smelled musty, especially the tunnel. The tour inside the jail was kind of interesting but too long. For us a walk through would have been enough, a guided tour is too much.

Took a party of twenty three from Men United West Church, Ballymena and we are all pensioners. I had thoughts of could we all manage the trip as we also had a gentleman in a wheelchair.Apart from the entrance to the tunnel he was able to complete the whole trip. The coffee/tea and scones in the restaurant were the best I have tasted for a long time and I must add the staff in the restaurant were very helpful dealing with such a large group of old grumpies!!! A number of our group had been to the gaol before some of them last year but still enjoyed this years trip mainly due to Terry our guide who went out of his way to answer the many questions that were fired at him. Once again many thanks to Bobby and Ella in the booking office for all their help.

A cool and funky location for festive celebrations and more. An interesting and historic venue that provides great festive dinner evenings and Halloween ghost tours. This place has oodles of character and still provides the Victorian prison vibe but in a sanitised way to suit our modern sensibilities.

Tour was ok. Not much access to the prison except a very small area. Lana the tour operator was friendly and tried to bring some enthusiasm into a somewhat boring tour. Did not hold a candle to kilmainham Gaol in Dublin.
