Ernie's beautiful Kenmara house is very comfortable, in an amazing location looking across to the Mull of Kintyre, beautiful garden and great views.
Ernie is very welcoming and interesting and enjoys sharing his lovely house, sitting rooms and dining room beautifully furnished, great paintings, amazing views and spotlessly clean.
We will definitely be back and am recommending it to all my friends.

This B@B is absolutely first rate. It must have the best views in the whole town of the seascape, situated as it is at the top of the cliff, but with the town just a short walk away. The rooms are very well equipped and comfortable. Eric the proprietor, with his female helpers, is the perfect host. On top of all this the B @B has a special historical bonus. Marconi 's first telegraph signal was broadcast from what is now the bathroom, to Rathkill island a few miles across the water. A great place to stop on your journey around the Antrim coast.

Room Tip: If you don't mind twin beds( we do) one room has spectacular views across to Rathkill island.

Our double room with en suite shower room was quiet and tranquil and we slept very well. We were, however, surprised not to find tea/coffee making facilities in the room and no TV as this was one of the more expensive night's B&Bs we encountered on our tour of Ireland--both round the North and the Republic.
However, breakfast was delicious and it was a delight speaking to Ernie Shannon, the proprietor.

Room Tip: Our double was at the back of the house overlooking the beautiful garden. There is a twin room at th...

I have stayed at quite a number of Irish and Northern Irish B&Bs over the years, but Ernie's beautiful Kenmara House was the best one so far.
It's a beautiful house with amazing views over to Rathlin Island from its location on top of a hill in Ballycastle. It also has some history - make sure to read the sign in the bathroom (or ask Ernie). :)

Ernie is very friendly and welcoming, happy to share tips for the best places to visit (and has good suggestions even for things that aren't mentioned in your average guidebook). The breakfast was lovely too, and served at a big round table so you got to meet other house guests in a friendly family atmosphere. Next time I travel up there, I will definitely stay there again. Highly recommended.

This is a lovely spot with a great and informal welcome from Ernie. He really knows his stuff both with food recommendations and with spots to visit. Ernie has some fascinating and informed anecdotes that you won't get anywhere else. The rooms were spotless, we were shown them all! The breakfast included 3 types of bread. All in all we felt relaxed and at home, I would recommend it to anyone.

We've been on a two week trip to Antrim and Donegal in Sep/Oct 2011 staying at many B&B's. While almost all of the B&B's in Ireland are good with friendly and helpful hosts, Kenmara House with lovely host Ernie Shannon is the ONE outstanding B&B for the following reasons:
1. The host Ernie is simply a lovely and very knowledgable guy. Every day, he came up with suggestions for places to visit, provided lessons in Irish history to better understand the places, rented maps, brochures and other material to read etc. Ernie surprised us every day with something new that is not typically found in travel guides: Trails to interesting places and where to park the car etc., all those things a local knows about and that make your stay more interesting and unique.
2. The house itself is beautiful and at an outstanding location in Ballycastle. It is located on a hill with at least two rooms with a view to the sea. The interior is nicely decorated, the rooms are clean with plenty of space.
3. The breakfast (which is rich with plentiful of options) is served in the dining room from where the guests can enjoy the view to the sea. The guests sit at a round table which provides a nice family atmosphere to start the day.
4. Ballycastle is in convenient distance to most Antrim attractions like Giant Causeway, Rope Bridge, Ballintoy, Cushendun etc. which makes it a good location for day trips. The city itself has a variation of pubs and restaurants.
I can highly recommend staying at Kenmara House and I'm looking forward to meet Ernie again and listen to his stories about history and what is going on in Antrim.
