“Highly-rated Hostel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 April 2013

Just returned from a weekend at Sheep Island View Hostel and Conference Centre as part of a school party. I was very pleasantly surprised. It was clean and comfortable through-out. The bed room was warm and the bed comfortable. Breakfast (for me) consisted of juice, cereal, toast, wheaten bread and a cooked breakfast of sausage, egg & bacon. Brilliant. The staff were friendly and just let us get on with it, apart from when serving breakfast when they were great.

Needless to say the location is fabulous. We walked to Ballintoy Harbour and to Whitepark Bay.

I don't know what it would be like to stay as a "hosteller" but I would certainly highly recommend it for use by groups such as church groups and school groups.

This is a great hostel. The couple who own it are lovely. I went as part of a group of students on a geology field trip and we were treated very well. They were very generous at meal times, with second portions being offered at every meal. And it's good food! The beds are comfortable too. It's situated in a nice little village and on a clear day there are great views. Only 12 miles from the Giant's Causeway.

Was my 2nd visit to the place in 6 years and was glad to see that the quality hasn't dipped one bit. It is a great location with great views across the rugged coastline. And of course there are a couple of lovely pubs around the corner - RopeBridge Bar and the Fullerton Arms, both of which have Irish music through the week. As a Sheep Islander, you even get a 10% discount at the RopeBridge bar. We stayed in Room 1 which is 3-bedder, although we had booked a twin. The bathroom is large and very clean. The kitchen has all the amenities for use and very well maintained. For the price, I think its location and ambience make it a value proposition. Wouldn't hesitate, ever, to recommend this strongly.

Room Tip: Rooms on the ground floor have ready access to the lounge and kitchen on the same floor. For views t...

Stayed here with a group of young adults who all enjoyed their stay. The hostel has all the self catering equipment that you would require and we made use of most of these. Staff very friendly and helpful. A great location on the North Coast, very good for the major tourism sites in the area.

We stayed for one night in a double room with en suite, all basic but very clean, the en suite was more like a wet room. There were no towels provided but luckily we always travel with some.
We didn’t use the communal areas as we got breakfast out and about but they looked large and well kept.
Very helpful host, we arrived quite late and they were very happy to help even though it was 9pm and they were eating their supper.

My impression it's smth better then hostel (it was quite calm and we took a so cold suite so didnt need to share showers) but worse then b&b. Wouldn't say that it's the best value for money too. OK, paying more then 40 quid, you might as well get some soap in a bathroom, never mind shampoo or shower gel. Also need to pay extra for the towel so make sure you have yours. Kitchen is very big, with several fridges it does look clean, however there was smth wrong with smell of food in the fridges. I was also quite picky about taking a shower. Summarizing, it feels like this property was used a lot and it's ok to get a night or two but personally, I wouldnt book for longer.

Our group of geologists stayed here for two nights during our field trip exploring the local geology. We found it to be an excellent, affordable, well-located "base camp."
Accomodation is basic, as one would expect from a hostel. Very clean. Water pressure in the shower quite low unfortunately.
Decent breakfast which can be arranged with the staff. I think they even gave us free bananas which weren't part of the breakfast. Just a nice gesture.
Mobile reception is non-existent in these parts, but there is a pay-phone. Staff super helpful when we needed to sort something out on-line by letting us use their computer/fax.
Pubs are a minute away by foot. We tried two different ones and enjoyed a few pints.

Would definitely recommend this hostel and group leader said that this hostel could be used as a base for another group of students from our uni in the future.

Hostel staff excellent and genuinely concerned if there are any problems.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not too close to the reception/kitchen/tv-room. : )
