“Hope it gets better”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 September 2014

This hotel is in a great position in a great seaside town but it really should be so much better. Reception bar and restaurant area nicely upgraded since it reopened but the bedroom we stayed in although it had a superb sea view was dated and very basic. We didn't eat in the restaurant but sat in bar area for around an hour on a very busy Saturday afternoon. There were only a few teenage waiting and bar staff and although perfectly pleasant had obviously a lack of training and supervision. Tables were left filled with dirty glasses cutlery etc the whole time we were there. Hopefully the upgrading will carry on into the bedrooms and someone will start a proper training and supervision programme for waiting staff because ballycastle deserves a decent hotel that people will want to return to.

i stayed in the honeymoon suit for a night with my husband for a romantic getaway whilst visiting northern ireland and fell in love with this hotel. the service was amazing very hospitable and accommodating from front of house staff and the room was magnificent. For a three star hotel the room we stayed in was perfect, very large with two bathroom sinks a large shower and jaccuzzi bath big enough to swim in. The four poster bed was very comfortable, the room also had a walk in wardrobe and the views from the balcony breathtaking. the only nit picking that my husband did was that there were coffee stains on the bedside cabinets which could be varnished over. the breakfast was filling and very nice both had porridge and a cooked breakfast. The only downfall about about breakfast was that we had to wait a while to be seen by someone to take our room number and there was also a queue of families after us that had to wait as i noticed the waitress chatting in the back kitchen to which i had to go let know there were people waiting. but all in all we loved our stay.

Room Tip: choose a room with a sea view

Dear EmmaMc1,
Thank you taking the time to write your review, it is always great to read such positive feedback. I am glad you enjoyed your stay in our honeymoon suite, we are undergoing a refurbishment of rooms in January so we will be addressing any issues with the rooms at that point so next time you and your husband stay with us the stains will have vanished !
I look forward to seeing you at the hotel during 2015.
Kind Regards

This review only relates to the restaurant. Having travelled around the Antrim Coast road we decided, on recommendation, to try the Marine Hotel restaurant for our evening meal, what a mistake. Out of five meals brought to the table only one was recognisable as to had been ordered. None of the staff were interested as to whether the meal was up to standard which it wasn't. Since when did a Caeser Salad consist of lettuce leaf and chicken as a main course? Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

We stayed over the bank holiday weekend, having been to the hotel before, and oh were they busy !! Our rooms had a sea view which was great for people watching outside. The food as always was excellent and Janice on reception is just great . Lots of information and always smiling.

We got tickets for the Mike Denver show on the Monday - that is one great singer. He never stopped and the atmosphere in the room was brilliant. Already looking forward to going back to this great hotel after Christmas.

Room Tip: The fish and chips for dinner are lovely.

I stayed at this hotel with my Mother in August 2014. We were very satisfied with the location, staff and the accommodation. This is a very friendly hotel and would recommend it for anyone staying in Ballycastle. Bed were very comfortable. The hotel is located only a short walk from the pubs and restaurants, and it overlooks the Marina.

Simple, but nice room, great breakfast, and a nice view of Ballycastle beach. Incredible value for a seaside hotel. Will definitely stay there again. No hassle Wifi connection too, which is a bit of a rarity.

Room Tip: I stayed overlooking the old harbour and Ballycastle beach, but i imagine a room looking straight ou...

Having lived in ballycastle all my life I was pleased to see The marine hotel reopen. It created such a buzz about the place! I decided to take my mum, sister and husband out for a meal in the bistro. Upon arrival we stood in front of staff for a few minutes, waiting to be seated. After getting bored waiting, we asked if we could sit anywhere. This was ok. We sat down in the middle of a bar full of filthy tables. No one took a drinks order, no one gave us menus, no one came to take an order for our food, no one gave us a dessert menu etc etc! To make the whole experience worse, A manager/supervisor was floating around, literally dragging her feet along the floor and looking so very intimidating and unhappy. Whilst doing so she walked past every dirty table and didn't bat an eyelid! She also looked at us quite strangely and made us very
uncomfortable. After waiting for the dessert menu and not receiving it, we gave up and went to pay at the bar. Oh and of course the food tasted awful, the mash tasted like powder out of a packet, goujons were hard and meat so dry and over cooked. Definitely do not choose to dine here!
