What a wonderful surprise to visit Navan Centre and Fort and have the world of ancient Emain Macha--its culture, history, and mythology--brought to life so richly. From the museum exhibits to the living history settlement and the impressive mound itself, this sacred seat of the ancient Kings of Ulster is a wonderful and not-to-be-missed site. Come prepared to spend some time in the interactive Visitor Centre and experience the living history exhibit (very fun to meet an "Iron Age family" in their roundhouse and hear all about life as it was lived 2,000 years ago) before walking the short distance to the great mound. Some modest uphill walking across fields is required to get to the top of the mound--but it's well worth the hike just to look out over the landscape and imagine the view that the ancient kings had when they occupied the site!

If you are interested in the Irish and Celtic history, that´s your spot! Very good visitor centre and impressing mound! I loved the "Living History" to learn about Celtic life.

This was our second visit to Navan and we travelled most of the way across NI to get there. We thought our nine year old son would like it and he did! Not only was he taken with the film about stories associated with the site (King Connor, Queen Maeve etc), but the Iron Age re-enactment (complete with "iron age lady") he was very impressed with.

Weather (as usual), wasn't brilliant - but you don't go anywhere in Ireland if you worry about that! We were rather concerned that there were only a few tourists there - in early August, although there was going to be a big event on the next day, so probably a bit of displacement because of that.

All in all a great site whether you are interested in the archaeology (which we are, our son less so), the legends or historical re-enactment. We only knew it existed because we had been before, so perhaps wider advertising would help visitor numbers.

Just back from the centre today, had a really amazing time meeting Larry the Dragon. John Paul, Roselyn and all the staff went beyond themselves to make sure we had a great time. Really lovely staff and very interesting exhibitions, would go again. Thank you x

We visited the museum and restaurant yesterday.
The staff were very helpful and we had a guided tour of the museum. Unfortunately the weather didn't allow us to go to the mound due to slippery surfaces and H&S regulations but the tour and show on Celtic myths and Legends gave us all the information we needed.
The food in the restaurant was fabulous, reasonably priced and all cooked on the premises, no processed food. The restaurand and museum staff were very attentive and everywhere was very hygienic.
We would thoroughly recomment this venue to anyone interested in the history of Ireland and it would be a terrific way to bring this history to life for school children as the activities are so clear.
