A group of 18 of us (of all ages) stayed for 3 nights in this hotel and could not find one fault. The location was ideal right in the heart of the city and the staff and management could not have been more pleasant and helpful. The rooms were clean and spacious. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Chose to stay on reccommendation especially for the excellent breakfast service!
First impressions; meeting and greeting at reception could be improved!; rooms spacious and comfortable let down by standards of hygiene in bathroom!
A hearty cooked breakfast greeted me in the morning but was let down by the service!
However as I enjoyed a very succulent steak the night before served with a smile I observed the very friendly waitress accommodate other tables in the same manner. When clearing my table I asked for directions to Argory excused herself, returning with booklet and highlighted a map directing me there!
Having returned home and spoken to friend that reccommended and speaking of the waitress learnt that she had served my friend breakfast and her name was Donna, I would suggest the Charlemont employ a few more like her!

This Hotel has friendly courteous staff and the quirkiness which is unique to family run hotel. In my experience the bar staff remembered my name, the waitress was eager to please. On my 3 day stay I ate in the bistro twice as the food and the service was so relaxed and welcoming to someone who was traveling on there own. My room was spotlessly clean and warm and the housekeepers even had a welcoming smile and a big hello each morning. I would recommend this hotel who wants a home from home and not to be looked after by a robot!

Room Tip: My room was to the back with a view over the Georgian mall.

Being Ireland, in early May, room heating was needed. Attempts were made by staff to extend central heating to our room at the end of the passage. They failed (and instead a room on the floor above became overheated!). Experience in the basement Bistro was similar; staff were unable to light the gasfire. In both cases, however, portable heaters were supplied.

The hotel was full with overflow from the hotel which was hosting a convention. Staff strove hard to cope, and were both friendly and willing. They lacked direction, however, and this was both obvious and inconvenient in the full restaurant at breakfast. A similar lack of co-ordination was seen in relation to the Bistro, where we had two dinner guests from outside. On a Friday night, only four tables were occupied, evidence of the hotel's attempting too much, with three venues for serving food, including the bar. Communication was inadequate: on being told upstairs that our meal was ready, we waited in the Bistro for 25 minutes before food was served. The young waitress was unable to provide a second bottle of the wine ordered, and when serving a substitute choice, did so with bad grace and ill-mannered action..

As is custom in Canada, I added a generous gratuity when settling our account. This was not deserved in the light of unacceptable experience in the Bistro, but as essentially that is the fault of poor management, I decided that to deny unsupervised staff was unfair and vindictive.

Our three night stay at the Charlemont hotel was a most enjoyable experience. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and quiet. The car parking at the back was so convienient and safe.
The dining room staff were so pleasent, helpfull and catered for all additional breakfast requests with a smile and the warm hearted comment of "no Bother".
I would say that any visitor to Armagh should stay at the Charlemont to experience the very best of Ulster hospitality.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the rear which are quiet and have an excellant view of some of old Armagh.

What I liked most was the warm enthusiastic attention given by all staff which you would expect from a family run hotel. It has soul and character unlike many modern hotels which more than makes up for the basic but clean rooms. What works best for me is a comfortable bed, a quiet room, a powerful hot shower, on-site parking in the centre of town and free wireless internet and that's exactly what I got. Also you get a cooked-to-order breakfast which most hotels no longer provide. The locals in the bar are very friendly also!
I'll be back.
