“One of my favourite places”
Reviewed 25 June 2014 via mobile

There are no end of activities to take part in at Castlewellan. One of the more family orientated spaces in a Northern Ireland, Castlewellan also caters to groups and thousands of scouting groups that camp here every year. Take in the castle and gardens. Ask the wardens about the WWII stories. Go swimming or canoeing in the lake. Camp. Relax. Enjoy

“park review”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

The walk around the lake is very relaxing and very do-able at about 3 miles. Brilliant maze near the exit...think it may be the biggest in Europe. Very well kept. Perfect for picnics, walkers. runners and cyclists. Mourne mountains in sight too, beautiful.

“castlewellan forest park”
Reviewed 1 June 2014

we have been coming to the forest park caravan site for over 20 years , the walks and scenery are fantastic, plenty of electric pitches ,with the majority designed for caravans . down in the main grass area the campers are situated ,without the electric , but plenty of water services etc . the town of castlewellan itself is a friendly bustling town ,plenty of eating houses and bars , the best of would be maginns on the main street, with a very reasonable and good restaurant . but back to the site itself ,approx half mile from town , facailities are basic , but i have to say since the forestery service brought in private contractors , the standards have went downhill ,compared to local direct employed cleaners , saying that it is a brilliant site with plenty to see and do ,and can see myself going dwn there for the forseeable future ! ps dispit the other reviewers comments , the coffee house and cafe are grand ,and offer a good selection of grub !

“brilliant place to visit”
Reviewed 30 May 2014

What a superb place. The castle and lake are breathtaking. There are miles of beautiful walks/cycle paths. The fresh air is perfumed with the great forest of trees. Camping is available for tents or caravans with acres of space. The lake has boats for hire and the peace and tranquility whilst on the water has to be experienced . Such a fantastic day out

“Beauty and silence”
Reviewed 12 May 2014

It's a place of beauty and silence. Just on the back of the little village with the same name, there is this magnificent park very well looked-after. There are exotic trees, some of which were planted in the XVIII century, a nice lake, a castle of the XIX century now hosting conferences and several beautiful forest paths. Highly recommended.
