A month ago we had planned to stay at this B&B during our time in Downpatrick. We reviewed the reviews and their website, and although the price was higher, it sounded like it would be higher end. We were very disappointed when we arrived and out of a 3 week trip, this was the first one we reserved that we asked to cancel our reservation. The two primary reasons was that the rooms do not have any showers just bathtubs with a hose to rinse off. The other issue was that there were painters painting the front and inside of the house and the smell of paint was throughout. The home is in need of some TLC and it appeared they may be moving in that direction, but we did not feel it met the standards of the marketing and price. To their credit, the owners let us out of our reservation without enforcing the 7 day cancellation and even helped us find another B&B in town, which turned out to be lovely.

I am so sorry that we disappointed you, with no shower and a smell of paint. This is not how we wish to be known and can only apologise again.
Our baths are 7 foot long, so truly huge and a step back in time to the 1920's when such things were truly luxurious in houses like ours, but unfortunately they didn't then come with overhead showers! We rather like keeping the character of our historic house And even my 6'6" son fits into them with room to spare. However when we redo a bathroom we will add a modern shower for the convenience of our guests.
As for the paint we took advantage of a lovely day to strip front door as it hadn't been done for a couple of years. Keeping these 300 year old houses up is a labour of love and never ending, but I am glad to say that all the original wood work throughout the house has been repainted and is now set fair for another few years! Next is the stable blocks and yards!

I am glad you felt that we were understanding and did our best to help you. Yours Nicola M-B

I've just returned from a few days with Nicola and James, and have to give their lovely establishment top marks. I really did feel, two days into our stay, that we were staying as house guests with old friends. Exactly what's wanted when on holiday.

Nicola and James have a beautiful home and made us feel so welcome (as did Damm and Dash, their two adorable dogs). The bedrooms were furnished with lovely antiques and the beds were extremely comfortable. We were offered tea in the drawing room when we arrived. Nicola cooked a delicious breakfast which included a variety of fresh breads, cereals and fruit followed by a wonderful cooked breakfast all served in the beautiful dining room complete with log fire. Nicola and James ensured that we had a wonderful couple of days staying in their lovely home and were themselves fun and interesting. I would recommend Ballymote to anyone wanting to experience a really beautiful country house in Northern Ireland.

A charming country house with comfortable rooms with a superb breakfast Nicola and James both go out of their way to make guests to feel at home. This is more than just somewhere to sleep; it is a place to enjoy a conversation with the hosts. We only stayed one night and wished we had booked for longer. Highly recommended. The dogs are lovely too.

Thank you so much for the lovely review and we really enjoyed having you to stay. We are so lucky we get particularly interesting guests from all over the place and have learned so much from them. We feel as if we have travelled the world just talking to them! Damm and Dash also enjoy having all the visitors, more people to pat and spoil them!

We had a lovely few days at Nicola and James' unique country house. They are wonderfully friendly hosts who encourage guests to treat the house and grounds as a home from home. Breakfast was wonderful with different home made or local produce on offer each day, all served in a beautifully elegant dining room. We would thoroughly recommend a stay, with plenty to visit in the surrounding area.
