“The River Mill - A jewel in the North”
Reviewed 17 August 2013

Four of us stayed at The River Mill for one night on route to a diamond wedding anniversary celebration. I can highly recommend this B & B set in a lovely peaceful location. The mill has been sympathetically restored and is absolutely stunning. Aidan was vey accommodating and even ran us down to the local restaurant Aldos (lovely food). Teresa's breakfast was delicious as we sat up in the loft. We were made to feel most welcome. A definite must to return.

Just returned from a five night stay at the River Mill and have to say it was a great experience. Theresa & Aidan made us feel more than welcome in their fabulous home. They were great with their recommendations of where to eat out, we even had a wonderful night at Down Cathedral ( at Theresa's suggestion) at a charity musical evening and were astounded at the amazing talent performing, mainly youngsters under the age of 20.
Well to breakfast??? I cannot really add to what every other reviewer has said that the breakfasts were outstanding, every morning something different even down to different types of bread for toast and freshly baked breads (banana was my favourite). One morning we had corn muffins and pancakes too. Need to mention the scrumptious smoked salmon too.Freshly prepared fruit awaited us each morning, every morning a different fruit, we had, stewed rhubard, melon, fresh pineapple, stewed plums and poached pears

The area is full of interesting things to see and do and we based ourselves at River Mill and found it great for visiting Coney island, Downpatrick, Belfast, The Mountains of Mourne and much more without sitting in the car all day travelling too far. Castle Ward is also very well worth a visit lovely grounds and nice walks around it. Next time we plan to tour the house but the sun had made a rare appearance the day we were there so wanted to enjoy it.
River Mill has a tranquil feel to it and you leave feeling refreshed - albeit a few pounds heavier.
Thanks Theresa and Aidan once again for your genuine hospitality.

Room Tip: We only saw one room but it was very large with a large wetroom. There was a side door which meant w...

The 4 of us stopped here for one night May 25th and we loved it. Large rooms in a historic building; large breakfast (almost too much food) and the owners were very nice! Wish we had stayed longer!
I don't usually give a 5* but this one warranted it!

Room Tip: Clicked pool in error; there wasn't one! Requested ground floor rooms and were accommodated.

This beautiful B&B is run by a really wonderful couple. Our party of four arrived during the recent blizzards and they were so helpful - getting us through the snowdrifts to a wedding in Downpatrick. The breakfasts are absolutely delicious - enjoyed in a lovely mezzanine room which overlooks the countryside around the mill. Bedrooms were chic and spotless. Had a lovely dinner in nearby Ardglass the night we arrived - the River Mill is a great, restful base from which to explore the surrounding area. Thanks so much to Aidan and Theresa.

Room Tip: Very big doubles on ground floor, and two small doubles on the upper floor - but still perfectly fit...

What a lovely experience! This is thetextbook example of how to run the perfect B&B! It was so nice to stay with a couple who genuinely care about offering the best possible guest experience. I would have no hesitation in recommending this B&B to anyone who was staying in the area and I truely hope that I will get an opportunity to stay at the River Mill again.

"Excellent" is a word which, over time, has lost some of its meaning, with modern superlatives tending to edge this rather old-fashioned description into the shade. Well, this B&B was truly excellent on every level whether by modern or any other standards. Van the Man might as well have crooned "Mammy never told me there'd be B&B's like this just round the corner from Coney Island, cus if she had I'd never have gone back home".
