“Tranquil and moving”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 June 2014

If one visit Northern Ireland, the small town of Downpatrick ~20-30 minutes drive away from Belfast is not to be missed. Local Cathedral is the place of St Patrick's burial. His grave is located to the right of cathedral (if you stand facing entrance) and represent very simple stone with engraving of his name. there is a bench for one to sit, contemplate and look at the views. We arrived at about 5pm on Sunday and the place was deserted - which helped to enjoy it unhurried and unimpeded.
Highly recommended

“Worth a visit”

This is an historic cathedral to visit as it is the burial place of St Patrick. Steeped in history this cathedral is a must for all interested in early church history.

“Peaceful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 November 2013

We have stopped here a couple of times. We enjoyed the view, the quiet (we never saw any other tourists or anyone), a time to reflect. A nice view.

The nearby church has nice bathrooms now and a small gift shop. We had so much fun with the attendant there. She was working the shop (with nobody around) and was a gift herself. We talked local history, accents, immigration to America and so on.

It was February and a bit cold. The shop had some hand knitted wool hats, lots of them, Very cheap. She said that a pair of sisters in the congregation knitted them as a means of contributing. They knitted so fast that the shop had trouble selling as fast, hence the cheap price. What a hoot. We bought three.

Well worth it.

“Peaceful”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 November 2013

This was a stop on our tour, and of interest to us (my mother and I) was the grave of St. Patrick and St. Brigid. It was peaceful and the cathedral was nice. Loved the graveyard, and the view in the distance made me take time to just stand and enjoy. Once inside the cathedral all I had time to do was give a brief glance, spent too much time in the graveyard. There was a very nice pipe organ, stained glass windows and a very old British flag. Wish I had more time to do more than give a brief glance, didn’t get a chance to read about what I was looking at but glad I saw what I did.
