“The Best Sunday Lunch”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

Whenever I'm in Ireland on a Sunday I make a bee-line for the Oak Restaurant at the Slieve Donard. The quality and quantity of the food are both excellent and I have never been let down by the quality of the service. At £30 per head it is hard to beat - a different proposition altogether from The Percy French. I have never stayed here so cannot comment on the quality of the accommodation.

Went here for a special birthday breakfast. We were given a table with a great view, and presented (discreetly) with special platter of pastries. Service was exceptional from Erwin, one of the managers, very professional and efficient. Wide range of delicious food, which was excellent value for the quality and choice. Really enjoyed the freshly squeezed orange juice, delicious pastries and breads, and bottomless hot drinks, as well as the hot food available.

I stayed at Slieve Donard for 3 nights as I was attending a Van Morrison concert. The hotel is magnificent. I was staying alone and the staff were helpful and considerate. The room was huge with the most comfortable bed I had ever sleep in...it was like being on a cloud. Everything about this hotel was outstanding. There was an inviting lounge/cafe area where I was able to get a light meal for lunch and dinner at a reasonable price which was ideal. Newcastle is a lovely spot with beautiful views and a pleasant village to explore, but a good 40minutes from Belfast, with the most reliable transport being taxi if you don't have a car.

Room Tip: The rooms in the newer wings have aircon for cooling. all rooms have heating. The hotel gave me a fa...

Spent a night here recently after a Van Morrisson concert, have to say it is one of the most decadent hotels I have been in for a long time. Bedrrom was luxurious with a huge kingsize bed and elegant bathroom. Breakfast was very tasty although I thought it would have been table service as opposed to buffet style but overall a truly wonderful hotel

Just returned from here after a 2 night stay B&B and an evening meal. We found it a beautiful place to stay. Bedrooms were spotless , with super king beds , they were very spacious and had everything we needed. Breakfast was good , with a good variety to suit everyone . Our evening meal was first class. We were treated very well by all staff from check in to checkout.Staff we found were very helpful and pleasant, and never made you feel you were an inconvenience. The Spa facilities , pool and fitness rooms were brilliant .
Unfortunately the only down side for us was the creaky floor boards we heard from the room above , and having an adjoining door to the bedroom next to us , we were able to quite clearly hear the folks next door talking etc. Also at 4 am a group of people were making quite a lot of noise outside the main entrance for about 20 mins .... thought the night porter might have told them , that people were trying sleep and keep the noise down .It was a warm night and most residents had windows open .

Room Tip: Sea view is good , but avoid rooms with adjoining doors , unless you require one

This is a large imposing hotel on the coast - convenient for golf course and scenic countryside. Nice place which seems well run. We went in August, so a little crowded feel to it in restaurant, bar, and spa.

Stayed for one night on business. The room was well appointed and clean. The iron and ironing board were very welcome. Had both breakfast and dinner and found the food to be good - locally sourced and nicely cooked. There were several families staying and with the swimming pool and spa, the hotel seemed to cater to their needs very well. I would recommend this hotel for couples or families or indeed for the business traveller. It's a friendly, welcoming hotel in a lovely location.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the sea/mountains - just spectacular!
