“Staff could be nicer”

Lively .. Great food nice ladies at reception and rooms are lovely. But when you pay that kind of money to go away for a relaxing weekend the last thing you want is to be confronted with a grumpy screwed up face man who is pig ignorent!! I think he runs the bar (not a bar man) but don't think he is manager..(not very tall dark hair mid 40s)! Was in the cottage bar for food and was disgusted at the way he spoke to guests and other staff members!! When he sat our food down he never even asked would we like anything else and when we said thank you very much we got no reply!! He let's the place down a bucket full!!!!

We took advantage of a special room rate to spend a couple of nights at the Burrendale. I was very impressed with previous reviews and they didn't disappoint. We had a brilliant stay, with excellent service from numerous very relaxed and attentive staff.

We paid the small premium to stay at the front of the hotel and it was worth it with stunning views across to Slieve Donard. The beds were wonderfully comfortable and there was minimal noise both from within the hotel and the main road close by. We all slept really well.

The breakfast was self-service, buffet-style with a wide of continental and cooked options. There was plenty of fruit, cereals, porridge, yoghurt, juice, pastries etc on offer. It was a lovely spread. We didn't have an evening meal there, but the lunch options was fantastic with very generous portions. Great for special diets too! There was a singer on the Sunday night who entertained a large crowd with some old Sinatra standards. It was great fun.

The gym is very well equipped and the pool a decent size for a few lengths and ideal for kids. Both seemed very clean and not too busy apart from when timetabled classes were on. The spa staff were ever so helpful and welcoming. There is also a jacuzzi, steam room and sauna which were excellent.

Newcastle too has retained its charm. It was a favourite childhood destination for our family and we all thought the town was looking very smart! The promenade is fairly new and the setting right below the Mournes as stunning as ever. It doesn't have the jaded feel of so many seaside resorts these days and am sure will be buzzing in the height of summer.

Overall an excellent hotel and one of the friendliest I've visited for some time. Nothing was too much for the staff and we really enjoyed our stay. You can be sure of a typical Irish welcome. Five stars all round!

Room Tip: Lovely views from the rooms at the front.

four adults plus a 2 year old booked family room Rom 26, really small, photo on hotel website shows a spacious room this was not the case. On arrival had food in cottage bar was charged £5.25 for a ham sandwich for 2 year old, disgraceful. Food at evening meal lovely but service was the worst I have ever experienced, ordered wine when ordering meal, had to ask twice for it and it arrived after we had finished our starters, it was also slammed on table by waitress who was cross that we had ask her as "I didn't take you order, did I" the coke and others drinks still had not arrived when we had finished meal. Had to ask for table to be cleared. The thing I am amazed at most was the fact that not once did any staff member ask us if we wanted to order a drink, we had to go to bar ourselves, not the service I would expect and can honestly say I will never recommend this hotel to anyone. Bad service can ruin a night away and it certainly did for us. I would like to point out that the receptionist was extremely professional and courteous.

Stayed at this hotel for one night whilst on business in Ireland and was not disappointed.

The check in and out was good with nice friendly staff on the desk at both times.

The room was very excellent with plenty of space and the bathroom was the best I have been in for a long while, unfortunately I did not get the time to use the excellent facilities provided, please see the pictures to view the full details, but please beware as I don’t believe all the rooms to be like this. Loved the large TV screens, and the patio area outside has some fantastic views. Also loved the extra touch of the chocolates spread around the room.

I only eat breakfast in the hotel, and it was very nice with a good selection on offer.

Would I use again, definitely, especially if I had more time to spend in the bathroom or out in the patio, which gets the last of the sun in the evenings. Also the price was very reasonable for the night’s accommodation.

Room Tip: AS mentioned in my review, not all the rooms are the same standard, worth checking what you are gett...

I held both my wedding service and reception in the Burrendale a few weeks ago. I can honeslty say it was fantastic. The food was wonderful and there was plenty being offered to my guest. The service we recieved not only on the day but with all our planning was first class. Nothing was a problem to any off the lovely staff who helped us and made our experience so special. The rooms were perfect and very cosy. I would recommend using the Burrendale to anyone planning an event. They really are a fantastic bunch of people who run a beautiful hotel with wonderful food.

Stayed on 3 night package with free evening meal. First night neither of us could eat the food and sent it back. Following morning foolish enough to brave breakfast. Horrendous !! Spoke to general manager my wife mentioned that breakfast was also cold. He asked what time was that we said 9.15 his reply should'nt have been cold at that time. Hotel advertises three restaurants but fails to mention only one menu, asked manager why this was he said you can't have menues all over the place he also confirmed the fine dining restaurant only opened when it suited them. Had any of this been mentioned in their advertising we would not have been there. We were not brave to face the free meal or indeed any other further meals and thus we dined elsewhere at our own expense in the Percy French restaurant excellent food and no more expensive. Have been in railway stations with more charm and character. Badly in need of makeover, only good was the staff they were terrific
