checked my son and grandaughter into hotel for a week. room comfortable and spacious. on suite was exactly what they needed. food fantastic and plentiful. great private parking so car was safe. breakfast great and only snack needed at lunchtime as we knew dinner would be tasty and well worth the money. we had a great time and would recommend this family hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: rooms to front of hotel have great view of beach

For such a prime location the avoca hotel has a lot to offer,
Based Near mountains this is a great place for mountain climbers to stay,
The rooms at the front of the building have an amazing view of Dundrum bay,
The bedrooms are very nice and warm and the beds are so comfy it is so hard to get out of them.
The car park is in a very secure area at the left rear of the building, At nightime they lock the gates so you dont have to worry about your car.
It is also great value for money.

Room Tip: Ask for seaview room.

We stayed here for our wedding anniversary and also so husband could do some walking up the mountain. There is parking to rear of building. Staff were very friendly and even helped carry luggage to our room. The hotels decor could do with bit of updating. but room was lovely with bay window onlooking the beach. couldn't ask for better.
We got a great deal for 2 nights b&b and 1 evening meal. We had the choice of eating in dinning room or in the bar. we chose the bar. Very friendly, great choice, lovely meal. I just felt sorry for the 2 servers. As they were trying to take orders, serve dinners, clear tables, serve at the bar plus answer the bell at hotel reception all at same time.
Our room was just above the dining room at front of hotel and was meant to be wifi throughout. yet our room didn't pick it up at all.
Breakfast was great, freshly cooked and was plentiful. even offered refills of tea/coffee and toast.

We tried the Avoca restaurant recently. It's situated on the sea front overlooking Dundrum Bay.It has an old fashioned ambience. The food is reasonably priced, and a good variety of dishes on offer. Residents staying in the hotel, have meals in a private dining room. They have good offers throughout the year. Good place for families, as they could be fed at a moderate price.Service was good. We had steaks, and they were very well cooked. A sauce would have been welcome.Dessert was a bit disappointing . The apple pie and custard both seemed to have been cooked without sugar.
Can't vouch for anything else on the menu, but would certainly return to try out more dishes.

The staff could not do more for us at the Avoca Hotel, nothing was too much trouble. We were greeted with smiles and friendly attitudes, even when we came in at 4 in the morning! Situated on the front promenade with spectacular views. Double bed comfortable, bathroom modern and clean. Downside, single bed was very uncomfortable and the decor is tired and jaded and the room was incredibly cold. If the owners spent a little bit of money updating the carpets and soft furnishings and individual thermostats especially in the shower room, this hotel could be a true gem.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the front to watch the Mourn Mountains and the beautiful bay

we stayed here for 1 night prior to climbing slieve donard in the mourne mountains. the location is fabulous, right at the start of the walk and just 10mins from the bus station. the staff were friendly and welcoming. our room was quite dated but clean, with tea and coffee and a sink. the bathroom was shared with only 1 other room and just across from our bedroom. the room had a marvellous sea view and breakfast was really good with very tasty porridge and although they didnt have a vegetarian option they very kindly catered to my friend who doesnt eat meat or eggs.the room was very quiet and we got a really good sleep. the only grumbles we had of this hotel was that our room was very cold. although it warmed up a bit when the heating was on, it only came on for a short while at a time and was not very pleasant as the outside temperature was very cold. also the shower was at best lukewarm so we couldnt warm up that way.this rather spoilt our stay as we do like to be warm!

Room Tip: ask for a sea view

Me my mum and sister stayed in this hotel just for a wee short break during midterm. We stayed from the 17th - 19th feb. Must say beautiful hotel gives that special effect to newcastle. Especially when you see them big fancy hotels and most people are into the 80's stuff. Has loads to do, and the food was absolutely gorgeos and believe me when i say gorgeos i mean it. The staff are so caring, kind and lovely people couldnt get over how nice they were, they showed you too your room and everything, unlike a big fancy hotel your given the keys and you have to make your own way around!!
Now to the room. Stayed in room 30 lovely and peaceful couldnt hear any trafficand the view my god was absolutely beautiful!! Could see the sea. The beds were so comfy we couldnt get out of them! Bathroom was stunning! But heres the downs. I know yous are trying your best but disabled acess is highly needed the hotel could do with a small not huge make over on both in and outsides. I can see yous are making a start. The bunk beds arent safe. Only one wooden barrier at the side any age child could fall out andhe springs that are holding up the top bunk matteres when some lies on it the springs come straight down. But other than that stuff. Its a beautiful hotel. Highly reconmended!!

Room Tip: Room 31 or 30 highly recomended or if with disabled people( not meaning to be rude) room 14 - 23
