“Not to be missed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 March 2014 via mobile

This is a really excellent tour that is not to be missed by anyone visiting the city or hoping to understand more about the history and experiences of the conflict. The tour is lead by a guide with a very knowledgeable guide with personal experience of family loss during Bloody Sunday, and is a very moving experience. He also has a degree in Irish politics and history so is able to comprehensively explain the wider context and history, and is a mine of information about wider issues and developments. The tour starts at the museum of Free Derry and uses the amazing murals to explain and narrate the history. We also went on a tour of the walls with the same guide which was equally interesting. All in all, not to be missed. Additionally, the guide and others working at the company are incredibly friendly and helpful and happy to answer any other questions about your stay.

“A moving experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 September 2013

This tour is given by the Free Derry Museum (which is also great), given by a former IRA member, and very touching and personal. Really gives a first-hand insight into the Troubles and particularly into the events of Bloody Sunday in 1973. Maybe too powerful for small children, but teens and adults will be captivated.

“the real thing - don't miss it”

Arranged via the Museum of Free Derry. I was the only one booked and the tour went ahead without any quibble - very impressive commitment to telling visitors the story of the area! Given by an ex political prisoner and a great opportunity to meet and talk with someone who had lived through the events of Bloody Sunday and the Battle of the Bogside as well as so much more that has happened in more recent Irish history. Willing to discuss and debate issues as well. Do visit the museum as well - lots of good, clear information and artefacts

“Given by people who really know the history”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 August 2013

The tour is arranged at the Museum of Free Derry. Ours was led by an engaging gentleman who was imprisoned for IRA activities, so he had first-hand knowledge of this area. Basically the tour explains the various murals which tell the story of the struggle in the Bogside. There are two side to every story and this is one side – but it’s hard to counter the death of unarmed citizens as happened on Bloody Sunday and many of the people who work here lost family and friends on that tragic day.

“Free Derry Tour and Museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 July 2013

This is an excellent museum and the tour is only 2 pounds more - do it. Even though there is overlapping information, it's worth it: the museum has a lot of good information and artifacts; walking the streets with someone whose dad was murdered in Bloody Sunday makes the unfathomable palpably horrific. We couldn't visit Derry and not come here. It's crazy that it was only 3 years ago that the British government admitted the victims were innocent - which shows why it is so important to visit these sites...
