Owner description: A museum explaining the political conflict that has shaped the city and the country: a must for those unfamiliar with Northern Ireland's war-torn past.

This is one of the best museums in the country! It explains the History behind L'derry as well as the Spanish Armada. The layout and information is done in a unique way in that there is plenty for the person who likes to read and look at everything, me, and an interactive, sensory side for those who usually race through museums, the kids! It's extremely well put together, packed full of artefacts, clean, tidy, easy to follow and the staff are so friendly and helpful. The children's room at the end is five star. Wonderful costumes to try on, interactive computer games and historical stories complied as a comic - fantastic idea! The room has enough for all ages to gain something from. All in all, if in L,derry do not pass this wonderful place by.

There are 2 parts to this museum - 1 is a history of Derry/Londonderry, the other is about the wreck of the Spanish Armada. Both are interesting and well done. Across from the museum, just outside the city walls, is the Guildhouse, which is also worth a visit.

What a fantastic museum...

This museum has two main themes

1. The history of Derry from Colmcille to the present day including, Pre-historic, Christianity, Gaelic Ireland, Plantation, Siege of Derry, Home Rule,The troubles (very tactfully delt with and presented from both sides) and the present day.

2. The Spanish Armada and the Kinnego Bay Trinidad Valencera wreck including many item whcih have been salvaged from the wreck.

The very best of interpretation has been used on both sections including audiovisual, actual artifacts, models etc. and really brings both subjects to life. Importantly give yourself enough time to visit this attration... I spent 3 hours and completely missed lunch I was so interested! However you are free to come and go all day once you have your ticket!

The staff were fantastic and give a real warm 'Derry Welcome'.. a place for the city to be proud of! If in Derry or ever Derry/Londonderry .. dont miss this!

Derry has a number of museums, but this is the best-presented, modern in its adoption of nuance in the treatment of history (this is an historically-contentious city), very respectful of the different traditions at play in that history (even the tradition behind the Spanish Armada, which museums in the UK hardly ever treat without patriotic fanfare). The artifacts are marvelous, the presentation first-rate. Highly recommended!

We came here to see the Armada exhibition and to our shame we didn't look at the wing dedicated to the history of Derry (a relatively immobile 80 year old and an easily bored 5 year old were to blame). There wasn't a huge amount to see and it probably didn't need 5 floors. My real moan is why it was so dark - this couldn't have been for effect as the displays weren't lit up either - it all felt like we were under the sea or in a power cut. The artefacts were interesting but the low light rendered the explanations unreadable. Sadly we all left a bit disappointed.
