“enjoyable stay”
Reviewed 9 February 2014

stayed here with hubby in the Donneybrewer suite for our anniversary and a bed and breakfast basis. The room had recently been done up and was beautiful and spacious. we were close to the leisure centre so dandered down and enjoyed a peaceful swim and use of the steam room and sauna. Decided after to checking out menus to stay and try the food after discovering the 2 for £29 deal. Front desk happily booked us a table and we relaxed with a few drinks in the bar before hand. Wasn't sure what to expect for food at such a cheap price but were pleasantly surprised. After ordering our meals the waiter appeared with some complimentary pea and mint soup which amazed us.The starters were delicious and just the right portion size, I had garlic mushrooms and the hubby pear and blue cheese salad. As we waited for our steaks to arrive (supplement for these) the lovely waiter produced then appear with some raspberry and mint sorbet leaving us speechless and wondering had we opted for the wrong menu after all! Steaks arrived and cooked to perfection with a huge array of accompniments. By this stage we were fit to burst but couldn't resist the dessert menu. we stuggled but dessert was so tasty we had to finish! surperb meal and even better price, and with a chef as a hubby hes a difficult customer. After our meal and a quick lie down to recover we went for a few more drinks in the bar and got chatting to the lovely barman. we then decided as we had the rare occurance of being child free we would head into the city for some night life. It was a Monday night so we were unsure were would be best to go, my husband spoke to the lovely front of desk clerk who recommended somewhere for us to go and rang us a taxi. His suggestion did not disappoint! The only one critisim we had was the breakfast staff the next morning who maybe are not morning people as were not so cheery and bright as we have met elsewhere and not the largest of choices when we were in though we did notice it being topped up with other things as we left. But overall a thoroughly enjoyable stay so much so we booked a stay for my inlaws 30th wedding anniversary where the booking manager couldn't have been more helpful in organising it to include the suite, romance package, the evening meal and a massage each for them and even the spa contacted me to make sure my in laws would looked after like royalty. will def be making this our annual anniversary stay (bar this year as new baby will have just been born)

Room Tip: couldn't recommend the Donneybrewer suite enough!

My daughter and I called in here last Sunday hoping for bar lunch. They were busy and only serving a carvery lunch but when I said I was vegetarian they asked what I would like and were happy to make me a lovely vegetable pasta. People were having huge platefuls of carvery which looked great value for money. Desserts included a chocolate fountain. Highly recommended for a meal. Thank you.

We had a great stay at the White Horse with the kids to see the Lumiere festival in the city. Took interconnecting rooms so kids were in room next to ours, rooms were very comfortable and spacious. We were back late after the festival so had room service dinner, which was excellent.
Breakfast also very good, then took a late check out so we could spend time at the pool which the kids loved. Highly recommended.

We stayed here whilst in the area on business. Food was excellent...barman was very helpful and plesent. There was a lovely local guy on reception who went out of his way to help( even re programmed my tv so I didn't miss corrie). Breakfast was delicious and served by a lovely lady.
Couldn't fault anything and would definetly go back.

This was my third stay at this Hotel whilst in Derry on business. I really cannot fault anything. The staff were friendly and helpful and go out of their way to make your stay a pleasant one. I do not understand a previous comment about the food and accommodation being mediocre - this is certainly not my experience. My room on the first floor was spotless and comfortable and had recently been refurbished. I chose to eat in the bar this time as I wanted something light and although I would say the menu was standard bar fare, the quality was good. I have previously eaten in the restaurant and consider both presentation and food quality to be excellent.
Although not used this time, the pool and gym facilities are also good.
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel or to use it again.

Room Tip: First floor rooms have recently been refurbished.

Stayed at the Best Western White Horse hotel recently with my husband. The hotel is located alongside a very busy dual carraigeway beside a major industrial plant, billowing out fumes. Please be aware if you are staying here that this hotel is located miles from the city centre. The hotel itself is pleasant enough and would be ok for the business traveller for an overnight stay. Overally fairly mediorce in terms of food and accommodation. Definately not a 4 star hotel.

Dear Hilary T,
Thank you for your review of the hotel. I am disappointed by the low score you gave us which appears to be as a result of our location. We are not a city center hotel and do not advertise that we are. We are only 5 miles from the city offering all the attitubes city center hotels can not, ample free car parking, large swimming pool & leisure center as well as sceanic walks surrounded by green fields. A drive into the city will only take 10mins. We are not in an industrial estate and the business you refer too billowing smoke is approx 1mile away from hotel not visible from the hotel not even the roof top.
