my better half and I decided as it was our wedding anniversary to head to the custom house in Derry, as it had been some time since we were there, and felt we didn't give it a fair chance. I had read the recent reviews and thought why not. We went in on Saturday and waited a while to enquire if we could get a table and order some drinks.....we waited. Eventually the Manager came over and informed us that it would be 30 mins before we could be seated. That was fine. We waited another while to order drinks and eventually did. I enquired if I could see a menu, and again we waited. The menus appeared after 15 mins - badly printed a4 sheets, no offer of a wine list, first impressions very poor. However within 20 mins we were contacted to say table was free and up the stairs we went. Orders were taken and I have to say the food was very good... absolutely no complaints there.
However, there were a few distractions that I would like to note. The bar man seemed to be having a breakdown, pulling the sides of his hair in front of all the patrons, the bar area was like a bomb sight with no movement to tidy it and clear up glasses, bottles etc - very unprofessional / untidy. To top it off, I noticed all the waitresses and waiter waiting at the food hatch / pass and they seemed to be waiting altogether for 10/15 mins on food orders. Obviously the waiter had become hungry and I noted that he was eating chips!!!!!!!!! I could not see if he had lifted them from the counter.....but it was not a very professional thing to be seen to do. Overall the staff seemed very distracted - and not the type of environment that you go out to pay good money for.
As I said already, food can't be faulted, but some of the actions of staff that my Wife and I observed means that we will sadly not be back to the establishment again.
