We drove over this iconic bridge to enter Derry for the first time. It allowed us to view the city from along the river. Recommended as a great introduction to the city.

Due to the congestion of traffic in and around the city, the Foyle Bridge is the most convenient way to get from the cityside to waterside and then onward to glenshane road and M2 and Belfast. It was very congested at rush hours, but now, thanks to a new roundabout being opened traffic jams are practically non existant even at rush hours. The only problem is it might be a bit hairy if it is windy as it is so high up, but the wind has to be really strong to affect it. On severe occasions, it may be closed but information flashing notices will give you updates before you approach.

Been over this so many times, and it never fails to do its job! Great piece of engineering, built in H&W shipyard in early 80s.
It's great to look at and still feels modern.

This new bridge as we call it was built almost 30 years ago , it crosses
over the River Foyle from the roundabout at the end of the city going towards Culmore or the Donegal border and crosses over to the Limavady Road or the main road going to Belfast which
cuts out miles of travelling for people who live in Donegal and people
who live on the cityside who want to travel to the Waterside area of the city or anyone travelling to Belfast, it takes you right out to the main
roads on the Waterside and cuts out about a seven mile drive.
It can be dangerous if there is stormy weather and will be closed to avoid accidents.
The distance from one side of the bridge to the other is approximately
2 miles and it is very high up, it's a dual carriageway. It is free to cross over this bridge . It is not really a tourist attraction at this stage just a quick way to get into or out of this busy city especially in rush hour traffic.
It is well used and could not be done without.
If visiting Derry/Londonderry go and have a walk across the city's 3rd bridge, known as THE PEACE BRIDGE, built and opened in 2012, not
for traffic . It is a beautiful attraction and well worth seeing, don't miss
this beautiful attraction, easy to find, just in front of the Guildhall in the City centre and takes you across the River Foyle to the Waterside area of the city, a short walk, about 6 minutes each way and worth a visit. There is always someone walking on this bridge both daytime and night time.
