We stayed one night at the City Hotel in Derry in October of this year, and I wished we could have stayed longer! It is a beautiful hotel, very clean with a modern look. The rooms are spacious and elegant, and the hotel facilities are superb! There is a really nice bar and a seating area with couches to relax with a drink, or coffee or snack. The restaurant was fantastic too! We had our evening meal there, and the food was excellent, as was the service. Prices quite reasonable too, a 3 course meal and bottle of wine for 2 people was only 40 euros! They also have a really nice fitness centre and pool, although I didn't have time to use them, I had a quick peek for our next trip. The staff were superb, right from the moment we walked in the door. Very friendly, and always helpful and accomodating! One of them even helped us park the minivan we had rented in the underground parking (which is free if you stay) :) The location is perfect too, right on the Foyle river, with a view of the new Peace Bridge. Within walking distance of everything, the old Derry town walls are about a 3 minute walk away. I highly recommend this hotel, and will gladly book another stay there the next time we visit Ireland! :)

Room Tip: I don't think there could be a bad choice of room in this hotel!

Me and my husband had our wedding reception in the City Hotel on the 28th July of this year and we could not recommend this establishment and its staff enough. Everything was perfect and the wedding co-ordination team are delightful to work with not only on the day but in the months and weeks leading up to the wedding day itself. The attention to detail and the helpfulness of the staff towards each guest was above and beyond what we were expecting.

The food here is delicious even just to pop in for a bite of lunch, and the atmosphere is relaxed and peaceful even though it is located in the city centre. Rooms are clean, spacious, modern and well maintained and the Bridal suite is very comfortable with a living area and gorgeous views of the River Foyle and Peace Bridge.

Again, I would highly recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Derry due to its central location, good value for money and the approachable and professionalism of staff.

Room Tip: If you can try and get a room with a view of the River, such a beautiful sight to wake up to in the...

Myself, my husband and kids stayed here for 2 nights over the halloween break. We were lucky to get a parking space under the hotel as its very limited. Greeted by nice friendly staff on arrival and our rooms were clean and spacious. This is our third time staying at the hotel and the food is absolultely georgeous. Couldn't fault any of it. We opted for a bar snack the second night and even though we were late for the particular menu the nice bar man let us order anyway! Think his name was paul! Leisure facilities are good for children as there is a separate baby pool. The water was colder than usual and jacuzzi was broken as well although this was fixed the next evenin. Over all an enjoyable stay.

My wife and i stayed in the City Hotel from 30th Oct to 2nd Nov for the halloween festival and really enjoyed our stay.We had stayed before on halloween and went to the ball in the hotel and had a great time so we wanted to do it again. I booked the hotel in Sept for 2 nights and was given a great deal from a girl called Denise my deal was with B&B and a evening meal and a superior room. The week before we stayed we decided to book another night which we got without any problems. When we arrived at the hotel it was a smooth checkin and we where located on the 6th floor with a view over the River Foyle and Peace Bridge. The night off the Halloween Ball was fanstastic in a great spacious room we really had a great nights entertainment with the band and dj and great costumes wormn by the revellers. Our last night in the hotel we had dinner in Thompsons and hadnt one complaint the food and staff where fanstatic especially the staff so friendly a credited to your hotel. We hope to stay in your hotel again next year for the Halloween celebrations and maybe for the city of culture facillies. Once again thank you for looking after us during our stay

Room Tip: Great location for shopping bars and tourist attractions

Stayed at City Hotel in August 2012. The staff are excellent from checking in with receiption to the staff in the restaurant. We found the staff really friendly. We had booked the standard room which was boiling especially at night. Next time we are booking a room with air con! Our only gripe was the second night we stayed at the hotel, we went for a few drinks and then came back for a few cocktails. We were told we couldnt have our cocktail of choice as the hotel didn't have a blender!!! We then went back for a refill of another cocktail just after 11pm only to be told we couldn't have it as the bar staff who made cocktails had gone home of the night, not impressed!!! Will definetly be back at this hotel as we really enjoyed our break.

Room Tip: Book a room with aircon

Dear Helen M,
Thank you for your review, we are pleased you enjoyed your break so much you will return. We do have an ongoing training programme in place for all our staff including cocktail training, we have been fortunate enough to be able to employ some new staff as part of our night’s team and hope to put these staff through cocktail training for your next visit.

This hotel was in a great location. You could easily walk to places and the water was visible outside of my window. The staff were quite helpful and attentive to the needs of their visitors. My room was comfortable but there was an issue with the doors. When they would close they were extremely loud and you could hear them open and close clear down the hallway. I did not eat dinner there but breakfast was good.

On the plus side the hotel has spectacular view over river and peace bridge. It was clean and staff very helpful. My room (non smoking) had that smell of a room used over many years by smokers in the past and there was a urinal smell in toilet area
There is no air con and window opens only a fraction to noisy street
