“good location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 May 2013

Stayed in this hotel for one night while visiting friends who live in the area. It is a good hotel -very clean throughout .The bedrooms are large and functional but nothing special. They are however well insulated for sound and are very quiet. The staff are pleasant. The breakfast was nice enough but again nothing special. The evening meal was quite good and reasonably priced. The location of the Hotel is its best feature. It is right on the Foyle and near the City Walls and other places of interest. It is an ideal base to tour the city.

Stayed here for a one day conference in November 2012. We got a great deal by ringing directly which including B&B including an evening meal for three people.

The first room we were allocated had a faulty shower. However, it wasn't until we had unpacked our suitcases and went to the gym that we got a phone call asking us to move rooms. This was the only downside to the stay.

Overall, it was a clean and useful hotel. It is located in the centre of Derry and close to train/bus stations.

The food was delicious and the staff were pleasant.

Great for relaxing in after a long day.

We stayed at the City for a 3 night break as part of a car tour of Ireland. We ate in the reastaurant on 2 nights. Rooms were clean, large and comfortable. Staff were very efficient, helpful and friendly, better than my experience of many city centre hotels. Restaurant was OK - good friendly service but only OK menu selection. Breakfast buffet was good, but a bit of a trial if you wanted a fried egg. A good place to stay for visiting Derry.

On a group tour so I don't know what other hotels in the area have to offer. The hotel just looked worn hard . On group tour, so I didn't have time to take advantage of the gym, pool or the steam area which would have been really nice.

Room Tip: Hotel was extremely busy with little space to move around in the lobby area. Rooms were small...

Located in the city centre this hotel is ideally suited for discovering Derry on foot. Reception staff are friendly and efficient. The restaurant food is excellent value for money and no request is a problem to the staff. We stayed during the jazz festival and because of this the hotel was filled to capacity as a result of this getting a drink became time consuming as lobby was filled with jazz enthusiasts. My only gripe was the king size bed where two mattresses were pushed together and I kept finding the joint during the night. I still would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the city

On Sunday 5th May, 5 family enjoyed a lovely meal in Thompsons Restaurant, City Hotel. We opted for the 2 x 2 courses for 2 and a bottle of wine for £35 and one other for £17. The setting was lovely as the Tony hendley Band were playing as we had our meal. I had salmon which was very tasty, others had steak(medium rare), pork and chicken. Everyone was impressed with the meal and generous side orders. Deserts also did not disappoint - an excellent apple and cinnimon crumble(very generous portion) hot chocolate brownies, were the best. Waitress was very attentive and made the experience all the more positive. Highly recommended!!!

The city of culture really lived up to it's name this weekend and the City Hotel made our weekend four really enjoyable days and nights. Most of the entertainment during the jazz festival was free. Can't wait until August when the Fleadh Cheoil (traditional irish music festival) .The staff at the City Hotel are really friendly and helpful.Food at the hotel is good and reasonably priced. There is live music as far as I know each weekend Friday and Saturday nights and no cover charge. Would recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Derry it's central and plenty bars and restaurants around the hotel. No need to take taxis as the hotel is central to all the entertainment.l
