We had a six day stay in this wonderful city which is definitely open for business! The City Hotel is well placed in the centre of the action. Our room had a great view of the Foyle and even had a workstation area.
The breakfasts were at the top end with plenty of choice freshly cooked, evening meals were equally good with a special deal for couples including wine.
The car park fills up mid afternoon but there is a public car park opposite where £1 gets you five hours.
Cannot speak more highly about staff from the Front Desk to the cleaning team they couldn't be more helpful or friendly.

Actually, we stumbled onto the City Hotel due to the recommendations of two Policemen! We'd politely stopped them and asked directions to a hotel we'd found in a guidebook. They told us we also should check the City out as it was 'competitive.'

The hotel is between a busy four-lane road along the river and a nice shopping area near the university. It's also just about a block, block and a half from the medieval walls.

We checked with the front desk and found it WAS quite competitive. Our room was large, the bed kingsize, and the bathroom spacious. We were at the back of the hotel, no view, but the rate was such that we didn't care for one night. A buffet breakfast was included. There were numerous hot items, a great selection of cereals, fruit, and small pastries. Parking is free, space available, and in an underground garage.

Our room special included dinner, which was actually quite good. The pricing would have been a little high if we'd not taken the 'special.' Everything was fresh and very tasty. I had fish, and it was cooked perfectly. The salad was crunchy perfect and dressed just right.

One note, this hotel is popular with tour bus groups. There were two checking in at the same time as we were. And perhaps another that had come in earlier. This means the breakfast and dinner service has busy times when the groups come in to eat together - just be aware.

Every staff member we met - from the first contact at the front desk to the check out the next morning - was friendly and very helpful. They were quick to answer questions and offer help or other information if needed.

We loved the City Hotel - it was perfectly located to explore the walls and the 'Diamond.' We were able to see the city lights come on from the top of the walls and stroll back to the hotel in the lovely dusk. I would recommend it highly - thank you, Mr. Policemen, for suggesting it!

Room Tip: Be sure to talk to the front desk if you have questions or requests, the staff is very helpful and I'm sure they will do their best to accomodate.

Good position near the river, great views from the hotel. Spent a few nights at the city hotel. The room was clean. Staff were friendly. Great bar area, within walking distance from major attractions in the centre.
Food in the restaurant was lovely, if somewhat overpriced, very comfortable stay. Would go back again.

Just spent 5 nights at the City Hotel. Superior room clean and comfortable but could have done with an additional towel rack in the bathroom and perhaps a clock/alarm in the bedroom but these a minor points. Staff very friendly and accommodating always willing to assist. We we're there for the Music and Maritime Festivals so Beach Boy concert and the Clipper Rounf the World Race departure both of which probably helped to make the City and Hotel buzz. Food was good value compared to many hotels especially the Twos Company deal and drinks were good value for a hotel. Will be back in 2016, if not before, when I sail in with the next Clipper Race.

Clean, convenient and nice hotel. Friendly staff and good food. Not many restaurants in area were open on a weekday evening, so we were glad we could eat here. Desk staff gave directions to cash machines nearby.
