“Ideal central location”
Reviewed 13 July 2014

Transfer from the airport is about 20 minutes depending on traffic. The hotel is centrally located beside the River Foyle with the bus station 5 minutes walk away. It is very close to various shops, bars & restaurants. Parking is available under the hotel and is accessed via a secure entrance.

The reception area leads to the Coppins Bar & Lounge area which also serves food, Thompsons Restaurant and 2 lifts to the rooms. The lifts can get a bit busy at "peak" times.
Efficient check in process and very friendly staff, I arrived a little early (before 2pm) and was expecting to have to wait for my room but surprised to be given access. Check out is12 noon.

Room 509 was a corner room directly opposite the lift with a great view of the River Foyle, Guildhall & city. Although close to the lift it was not noisy. Room facilities included: tea / coffee tray, hairdryer, satellite TV, iron & board and complimentary toiletries. There was no air conditioning but a large fan was available.

Breakfast is served from 6.30 – 10am (M-F) in the Thompsons Restaurant, there was a good selection of hot / cold food with great service from the staff.

Overall, this hotel is in an ideal location for a visit to Londonderry. All the staff were very friendly & welcoming, making my stay most enjoyable.

Room Tip: Rooms on the front of the hotel get great views of the river. Corner rooms are light & airy e.g...

I was in Derry on my own and stayed at the City Hotel. My entire experience was very positive. The hotel was easy to get to from the major roadways and was still connected to the walled city. The staff was friendly and my room was spacious and comfortable with an incredible view of the city and the freedom bridge. I felt very comfortable being on my own here. I highly recommend this hotel.

If you're visiting Derry this is the place to stay. It's right in the centre of the Derry, 2 minutes walk from the walls of Derry, right beside shops, restaurants and beside the river Foyle. Restaurant in the hotel serves good food and a great buffet breakfast. Be aware that there are lots of tours at this hotel so restaurant is busy early in the morning and for dinner in the evening. Dinner for two plus bottle of wine was only £35 fantastic value. Rooms are average, double beds are very small so worth paying extra for the limited amount of Superior Rooms they have. WIFI is subject to the deal you book. No in room safe.

Room Tip: Pay extra for Superior Room which has King Bed as Double/Twin Room Beds are very small.

Just back from an overnight stay in City hotel. We got a room at front overlooking river and the peace bridge, fantastic views only problem was the windows wouldn't open more than 2 inches and they were filthy so didn't get as nice a view as we had expected.Hotel staff were very nice and the doorman was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Meals were good room was clean basically couldn't fault this hotel other than dirty windows.

Room Tip: Ask for room at front overlooking river

It was a spacious clean hotel. No outlets near the beds, but a desk and table for electronics. Bathroom was clean and large. Staff was friendly and helpful. The beds were comfy and we had a great view of the city. However the wifi was an absolute pain. Every 24 hours we had to log on again with four random code words we got from the front desk. But that would be my only complaint.

Myself and my boyfriend stayed at this hotel February 2013, and couldn't wait to stay here again. We checked in on Friday evening & had dinner in the restaurant. It quickly became apparent that since our last visit the standers have really dropped. My partner was served a bowl of soup as his starter, the soup was spilt all over the outside of the bowl and saucer. Personally I would have been embarrassed to serve that to a dog. My chicken Caesar salad was freezing cold... Probably had been prepped that afternoon and put into a fridge. It was so cold I couldn't taste anything! Main course was a little better but we had wanted to order a bottle of wine with our mains. We got the wine list but nobody came back to take our order... So I had to get up from my meal and find a member of staff to take our order. A few minutes later the waitress that had took our order initial came over to try to rectify the situation. A pleasant lady, apologised and explained that she had been on her break. She lightened the mood and defused the whole deal. Thank god there is one staff member in the restaurant that actually understands the importance of good service. The only other positive I have to say about this hotel was that the house keeping department were super friendly and extremely helpful.

Dear Guest
Thank you for your review, I was disappointed to read your comments about our restaurant team that were going through some training, especially since an apology and explanation were offered on the night with complimentary drinks, and you returned to dine with us the following evening, I do hope you choose to stay with us again so you may have restored faith in our service levels

About 50 of us who had been visiting Derry on yachts for the Maritime Festival enjoyed a Dinner in the City Hotel on Wednesday 25th June 2014. The venue was first class with lovely views of the river and the Peace Bridge. The staff were outstanding in every way and the food was both faultless and reasonably priced. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel.
