“Pretty good”
Reviewed 20 June 2014

The room was a bit small but had all the services. The staff girl at reception was excellent. She directed us to the place where the tour of the walls started. The food was pretty standard for a 4 star. Like all hotels nowadays the breakfast was kept warm in those stainless steel heaters which does affect the quality of the food. The location was a big advantage being plumb in the centre of the walled city. There was some music in the bar on a monday night which whiled away the night although we left later for Peadar O'Donnells towards the Bogside for more traditional music. Derry is a fantastic place to visit for history, music and friendly people. Its a justified 4 star but its location is its big plus point.

Room Tip: Dont have any.

Recently stayed in the Tower Hotel and have to say the experience was excellent.

We don't live very far away but we decided to stay in Derry because we were attending an event and it made more sense to stay over (felt like I needed to explain myself there!). Anyway, we got a great deal - The Very Superstitious deal! (It was Friday the 13th). This deal consisted of an overnight stay, breakfast, evening meal and the deal clincher...a free cocktail. All for...wait for it...£89.00

We arrived pretty late, the lady at reception was very friendly, booked us in, reserved our table for dinner and organised the free carpark for us. The carpark was pretty full and one car was taking up 2 of the limited spaces (grrrr) but I managed to plonk the car and I left it there all night and most of the next day free of charge which was great in the city centre!

The room was comfortable, clean and basic, perfect for a one night stay. We had to rush down to dinner as last orders were at 8:45, it was now 9:05 (oops). When we arrived in the virtually empty restaurant we began apologising for our lateness and commented on how awkward it would be and perhaps we should go somewhere else! However, the gentleman serving in the restaurant immediately dispelled that awkwardness and was extremely accommodating and friendly throughout our meal. Exactly the type of personality needed in a hotel restaurant. The food which followed was nothing short of delicious - compliments to the chef. My girlfriend actually commented in how the chicken was the 'Best chicken she had ever tasted!' and she knows her chicken - apparently it was free range chicken cooked from fresh. My steak was equally mouthwatering.

The location of the hotel was perfect too, within walking distance to all the bars, nightspots and shops..

In all, a fantastic, very reasonably priced stay in the Tower Hotel. We'll be back! Thank you

I have to say I have really mixed feelings regarding this hotel! Some of the staff were really helpful and other well where terrible! The initial greet was not good, telling us to go to a different car park because the hotel one was full, we don't live in Derry we don't know where this car park is! Secondly I was up for to run the marathon, there was no extra staff clearly for a really busy weekend. Our room was really average if not a bit disappointing if I'm totally honest, plus the sound proofing needs looked at if your staying on the first floor. The breakfast was good. The checkout was really cold we weren't even asked was everything okay, did you enjoy your stay! Really think there needs to be some attention to detail!

Room Tip: If you want any sleep at the weekend don't go on the first floor, you can hear everything that g...

Booked in to the tower for a hen night! When we arrived we were treated like children although most of us in our late 30s! We were told not to be noisy and we had to give an extra £50 room deposit and were told if we were noisy or done any damage the deposit would not be returned. Went to the restaurant as a meal was included the staff in the restaurant were a lot nicer than the receptionist and bar staff! Dinner was beautiful and a nice menu. The room was lovely with nice view over the city! Some of the ladies in the group were quite disappointed with the security staff being very rude. Had a wonderful sleep and a fantastic carvery breakfast. Nice hotel but it needs new receptionists! Don't think I would go back!

Was very happy with our stay. Food was excelent both in portion size and quality, breakfast was self service with plenty of choice of hot items, pastries and cereal. Staff were very helpful with any queries we had and sorted our only issue, a stubborn lift/room key immediatley. We could pick small faults that the hooks holding the curtains back in our room were loose, same with the window catches, one of the wall plugs only accepted round pronged plugs, a socket was loose on the wall and a slight crack in the sink. All in all it was a very enjoyable and comfortable stay.

Stayed for 2 nights and had 2 rooms.

Front desk personnel were very friendly and responsive, except in early morning (8am) you had to search to find them.

Hotel is dated. We had water pressure problems in both rooms. Also rooms were very warm even though it was 60 F outside. Can't imagine how miserable they would be in temps get warmer in summer. Kept windows open all night which of course meant street noise. Hotel has no a/c.

Charged for WiFi which is just ridiculous when just about every business in Ireland gives you free WiFi. But even more insulting is that you get to use only one device. So if you have computer and iPhone you are out of luck unless you pay double and if you are 2 in a room then both of you have to pay. RIDICULOUS!!!

This Hotel is not cheap by any means and leaves a lot to be desired.

The best thing was the Breakfast Buffet which was very good and reasonably priced!

Actually it's more then average and very charming. Well situated with a walk from the best sites and it has an old world charm, it's just that the problems that bedevil a hotel are manifest here. We did have problems with plumbing and reaching an operator, but all things worked out in end.
