“A new bridge for peace”
Reviewed 24 June 2014

This bridge is something strange: the design is so beautiful and is not bad near the old town. It is so beautiful walk on it.

“Like a Bridge over Troubled Waters”
Reviewed 20 June 2014

The Peace Bridge is located in Derry, Northern Ireland. Derry is the location where the tragedy of Bloody Sunday occurred in 1972. The Peace Bridge opened almost 30 years later in 2011 as part of the ongoing peace process that followed the Troubles.
It crosses the beautiful River Foyne: 'clear is the water that flows from the Foyne...'. The bridge connects the largely Nationalist (Roman Catholic) precinct of Erbington Square with the city centre which is predominantly Loyalist (Protestant). Designed for pedestrian and cyclist access, the suspension bridge is 4 metres wide and 255 metres long. Its curves emulate the curves of the Foyne and I see symbolism in the sharpness and angularity of its structure. Popular with tourists, it heralds a new era in Derry's bloody history.

“brilliant”

this bridge is a stunning landmark for Derry. Walking on it offers a lovely prespective of both sides of the Foyle. The curve and architecture are amazing.
