Stayed here nye 2012 on arrival hotel was lovely and staff pleasant, checked into our room 105 and noticed it was interconnecting with another room although the door was locked and that's were it went downhill from there. The stench of smoke was disgusting, the guests in the other room were smoking and it was coming through into our room, I was travelling with my husband and 2 children one of whom has asthma, we decided to open a window and hope the smell left. We ate in the bar and the food was lovely fish and chips good size portions, we had a few drinks with it being nye however we had to leave at nine because of the children and this is were the boredom set in I'd think as we were staying in the hotel and the fact it was nye we could have set on! Ended up in our room and once again the smoke we complained and we were offered an air fresher. We also had to listen to their tv going all night as you could hear everything, my daughter and I ended up with sore throats and chest the next day and the smell on our clothes was disgusting we ended up checking out early next morning, I also complained again and they took £24 off the bill which to me was insulting considering our whole night was ruined, our clothes smelled, our hair smelled and we felt ill! Oh and another thing they take your card details at check in and say they don't charge anything to it when in fact they do take a £50 deposit which I'm still waiting to go back into my bank! And on top of the £50 they take full payment the next morning, don't think I'll stay at this hotel again

Room Tip: Avoid room 105

We stayed in this hotel as a last mibute thing on a sunday. Got the room for £49 for us both. On this budget we were expecting a box room but no. Room had 2 double beds, spacious, spotlessly clean. Beautiful. Check in and check out quick and efficient. The jewel in this hotels crown is the restaurant. Amazing food, i loved every mouthful. Fabulous customer service throughout entire hotel. Location is a bit far out from town centre so not ideal for city breaks.
I loved my stay here and hope you do too!

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 January 2013

My wife and I stayed here for New Year 2012/2013. From check-in to check-out all our experiences of the staff attitude to guests were excellent!!

We decided to upgrade to a superior room since it had better facilities and a larger bed. The room was large and well equipped - although I would have preferred some better lighting in the room. Low energy bulbs are a good thing, but there was nowhere with enough light for writing. Initially we couldn't find a shaver charging point for our electric toothbrush, eventually we discovered that it was hidden behind a panel in the light above the bathroom mirror. There was always copious amounts of very hot water available. This was grand for adults, but if I had small children with me they might need to be supervised when washing.

We ate 3 evening meals in the "Grillroom" restaurant which had a lovely Christmassy ambience to it. All the meals were well cooked, tasty and nicely presented. The restaurant does an excellent deal during the week where you can have 2 courses from the menu for £10 - this was great value for money.

We had booked the Gala Dinner on New Year's Eve. Unlike some other events we have attended we were allocated an intimate table for 2 instaed of being shoved in with an unknown crowd. The 6 course dinner was served quickly and very efficiently. The main course was a beautifully cooked sirloin steak. All the elements arrived at the same time, rather than getting the steak served and getting cold before the vegetables and potatoes arrived. For the number of diners this was a very slick operation and the kitchen and serving staff are to be thoroughly commended. Unlike some other hotels which charge more on special occasions, the wine was priced very competitively, (Yellow Tail merlot for £11). This sensible attitude encourages diners to buy wine.

The one aspect which did disappoint was the breakfast. There was a limited choice of fruit avalable for putting on cereal. There was a sensible choice of hot items although they seemed to be rather luke-warm despite being in kept in heated trays.

I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. It is clean, reasonably handy to town, has lots of parking and the staff are excellent. The location is good and easy to find - we walked into Derry one afternoon - it took about 25 minutes walking alongside the river which would be more pleasant on a sunny summer's day rather than a cold winter's day.

Room Tip: I would suggest asking for a room overlooking the river Foyle.

Dear ‘sandylindsay’,
Thank you for your comprehensive review of your New Year’s stay with us and for including so much detail. We are very fortunate at Da Vinci’s Hotel to have an amazing team of staff that was not just hired for their skills but for their warm and friendly personalities so I am pleased that mentioned the staff first in your review. I have passed on your remarks about lighting and hot water temperature in your room to our general manager for his consideration. I am glad you enjoyed our New Year’s Eve Gala, we have receive rave reviews from those that attended it particularly about the food so I am sincerely glad we made this occasion special for you and your wife. Our hotel is located a short distance from the city centre and the new promenade you mentioned makes the walk into the city centre most enjoyable for our guests.

We are very proud of what we have created at Da Vinci’s Hotel and it is of great encouragement to me and the rest of the team that every element of your stay was so enjoyable. We hope to welcome you and your wife back to the hotel in the not too distant future.
Best wishes,
Natasha O’Hea

The staffs are helpful and friendly.Room was bright and clean.Bed was comfortable and I have a nice and relax sleep.
The only things the hotel is a bit far away from the central although there is a bus stop 5 min walk from the hotel. We waited for more than 25 min before the bus came.

Dear ‘Jessee2000’,
I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us. We are located just over a 10 minute walk from the city centre, the walk into the city centre is most enjoyable as it is along the waterfront allowing our guests to enjoy the River Foyle. It is a pity you chose to take the bus rather than take the short stroll into the city centre as this is extremely popular with our guests. Hopefully the next time you stay you will try this walk. We look forward to welcoming you back to Da Vinci’s Hotel soon.
Best wishes,

This is one of those hotels you will enjoy whether you are on a romantic getaway, formal function, boy's/girl's night out or business function. I have been to this hotel many times and would thoroughly recommend the restaurant more than the bar food- which is similar to most hotels. Staff are friendly and courteous and the price is very competitive and the hotel is fairly central from the city centre.
