If you like Indian food you will like Nepalese cuisine as the food and flavours here is one of the best you'll get anywhere
The quality is superb and it's as "cheap as chips"
My favourite starter is the chicken chola

This place is small. Very close to Union Square (i.e., conveniently located). Large menu including Nepalese and Indian cuisine. Very personable service. Big plate of papadums with four relishes ranging from sweet mango to hot pickle, with a fresh red onion and (I think) herbed yogurt in the middle. Really intense flavors. Generous portions. Super sauces. Tender meats. We had sheeh kabob, chicken nauni (very close to butter chicken), Everest lamb (hot) and Hiimalayan lamb (with nice chilies). Sides of saag paneer, kalo daal and rice. Wow - just what I was hoping for. Only regret - we forgot to order momo dumplings.

Wow, just visited my new favourite restaurant. The food was fantastic, each dish was so fresh, full of flavour and served by wonderful staff. Whether it's for a quiet meal or a special occasion Gurkha Chef will impress you, and it's close to Union Square, but without any of the queues.

4 of us came here for a meal to celebrate a couple of family events.
We had heard of it but never visited before but left very impressed.
We shared the first course of mango chutney, mint / yogurt sauce, pickle (careful - it blows your head off) and the onions. There was a very generous serving of these along with 4 large popadoms. It would have been nice to have another 4 so we could use some of the sauces which were left but nobody offered extras.
We shared 2 dishes for a starter , one with chicken and a pancake and the other of steamed Momo dumplings - fantastic.
For mains, we all ordered chicken dishes, 3 rice dishes and a couple of naan breads. One of the dishes already came with rice.
All the dishes were fantastic with a really hearty amount of chicken in each. With the rice and naan breads, we were all very well fed.
We had 3 large beers and a cider - the total coming to under £70 for the 4 of us.

This venue is fantastic value and offers beautiful hearty dishes of food.
The place itself is not in the best location but don't let that put you off.
However if you want a lively atmosphere, you might not get it here. We were lucky a table had been booked for 8 in the centre of the room which gave us a bit of atmosphere and a further 2 tables of 2 were occupied later.
I did find the staff very quiet, they never approached the table unless to take an order, clear away dishes, or to give food. And this was done in total silence. Perhaps it was just a different manner of service but there was no asking if everything was ok with the meal etc.

And service was also sparse if you needed any extras. It was also very, very slow. Luckily we weren't in a hurry, but it must have been 20 minutes before we had our drinks, 25 minutes before we had any food, and there was a good 30 minutes in between our starter and mains. This might have been because each dish was being cooked to perfection.
Overall though, we were all impressed with the Gurkha Chef and will definitely be returning.
