“I finally found the perfect hotel in Aberdeen”
Reviewed 21 September 2012

I'm from Houston, work in the O&G industry and cover Europe and Asia. I'm a heavy traveler and expect excellence in hotels. I don't normally rate hotels but felt this was the time to write a review. I've been in 9 countries in the past 31 days and was totally out of clothes. Actually, I've been procuring new clothes for the past few days. I'm very picky in who I let launder my clothes and prefer to do it myself when possible. Dry Cleaners tend to use so much heat on my dress shirts that the buttons just fall apart. Not the best look for a company representative. All heavy travelers know this. Alexandra at the Doubletree was so helpful, she helped me make change and referred me to a local dry cleaner that does not use excessive heat. I was thrilled. She also dialed the cleaners number and a cab to take me there and was pleased to help. Kuddos to you Alexandra.

This hotel is beautiful. Request a room in the VIP building on a high floor facing the beach. You can wake up and see the beach and ships, etc.Breakfast is fabulous and the internet is 100%. This means a lot to a heavy traveler like myself. It also has an indoor poll and huge workout facility. In fact, they sell memberships to the locals who ofter workout here.

Beautiful Place, walking distance to TGIF and Chinese food restaurants, as well as ASDA, the UK Wal-Mart.

Room Tip: High Floor, beach view

This hotel is well-located for the beach attractions, but that's about it. Although my room had been recently refurbished (flat screen TV, dark wood) the bathroom looked like it had been preserved from the 1970s. The bath enamel was chipped, and the washbasin was cracked. There was free wireless internet in the atrium, but it was very slow (around 0.3Mb/s—about what I used to get with dial-up ten years ago) even though no-one else was using it at the time. The bottled beer was not cold (I would estimate around 7 or 8 degrees). The bartender told me that this was the temperature at which they kept their beer (I was reminded of the story of Asterix in England who was told to drink his beer before it got cold). And despite three attempts, at breakfast, I still couldn't get tea that didn't look like dishwater. That said, the breakfast spread was good, with haggis and black pudding as well as the usual breakfast meats. I can't imagine this is the best Aberdeen has to offer, and will go out of my way to stay somewhere else next time.

Good bed, good pillows. No minibar/water in the room, no slippers, no bath robe, no hair drier, no sewing kit, no shoe polish, half of the closet occupied by an ironing board, safe box unusable (missing the lock). Very good breakfast. Internet very expensive (10 pounds a day) for somebody coming from a country where internet access is free in every hotel, bar, park. My window was facing the back of the hotel where the garbage pile was so I couldn't open the window and let fresh air inside.

Stayed here once again reception and rooms were first class. but the same old bugbears appear time after time replenishment of food at buffet breakfast was apalling as was the bar service. I have had this same complaint over the past 5 years and no improvement has ever been made, as the hotel always seems to be overbooked and cannot cope.

Room Tip: any room but get up early if you want a full breakfast

We have stayed here many times before, when it was the "Patio Hotel". Double Tree by Hilton have revamped it a bit since then.
Paid a bit more for the premier club double room, which is much larger and a bit quieter than standard rooms.
Well furnished and decorated with a huge bed, let down by dated/worn bathroom that got flooded every shower, despite all efforts to secure the curtain!
We had two cars with us so handy parking was important. There is plenty of secure space here.

We didn't eat in the hotel apart from the buffet breakfast, which was very good.
More of a business hotel, with lots of meetings and functions going on, but we were welcomed for our two day stay and all staff were very friendly and efficient.

Good hotel. Good value for the price, but location vs. Downtown Aberdeen is not good. Room are fine and good internet concection. Good gym at the hotel. Equipment needs a bit update, but works. Breakfast fine.

Paid for a Platinum Club Executive Room with sea view. No sea view. Room very basic no bathrobes, no bottled water and indeed no heating. Very cold room. Decor was poor to average and not what I expect for one of the best rooms in the hotel. Handle unscrewed on toilet so fell off when used. Shower head old and tired. Facilities pretty basic and wireless Internet in room to slow cannot stream a movie. Disappointing stay
