Attended a wedding here and stayed overnight. Our room had not yet been refurbished, however it was an acceptable standard nevertheless. It was a bit disconcerting having scaffolding outside the room but as we stayed on 30 December no work was currently in progress. The bedroom was a decent size with a huge and very comfortable bed, ample storage space and two easy chairs as well as a dressing table and flat screen TV. The bathroom was huge but does badly need some work done. The shower was over the bath with a curtain that had seen better days. It was difficult to prevent water leaking out at the side (and as the floor was damaged at this point it looked like others had had this probelm). The shower was suitably powerful however and all fittings were very clean. Breakfast was very good with ample choice of cereals, bread etc. with the included contintental breakfast. Staff were most helpful and very polite. The reception area was comfortable and guests could sit here and have coffee or a drink. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here and the location was very near a couple of shopping malls and close to the railway station which was great.

Stayed here for an event in aberdeen parking is a nightmare on street only staff are relatively friendly but not too helpful room faced the street and was very noisy over the weekend. Breakfast was well attended but the food was bland and basic, the breakfast menu was over complicated and trying to be more than it should. Not worth the price tag

I was in Aberdeen for business. I was thinking of Jurys Inn in Aberdeen, then i shifted to Carmelite, because it was cheaper and i was not losing in terms of location. Carmelite is very close to bus station which can take you directly to Aberdeen's airport. It is walking distance from railway station. However, i think i will stay in another hotel because i always had problem from the hall. I could hear noise, speaking and walking of people in the hall. The noise from my room was heard in the hall. It was kind of disturbing the privacy. Then i found out that there is huge space between door and floor. I guess the floor went down for about 5 cm. The thing i liked is internet connection. It was fast and easy to connect. It helped a lot for my business trip in Aberdeen.
I had no problem in checking in, but i was waiting about for 10min. for the receptionist to come and check me out.

We booked the Carmelite as we were having a night out in Aberdeen for my wifes birthday. We made the booking including breakfast and in all cost £109 which we thought was not too bad, when we arrived at hotel we were told it was going to be very noisy till 0100 - 0130am as the xmas parties were being held in hotel, we asked about off street parking and was told there was secure parking at the cost of £10 a night! When we were given our room we were shocked at just how little space we had in it, considering when you read the hotel website it makes you think of something bigger ( premier inn was double the size of room ) we also were told we had booked a room with roll top bath and seperate shower cubicle.....well unless we had to bath in the basin we were short of 1 x roll top bath! Coffee and tea making facilities were nowhere to be seen and you have to call reception for someone to bring up tea and coffee when required....on the plus side the room was clean as was the bed linen etc but you just have to be the size of a mouse to move around the room with ease.
We thought in the morning that once we have our breakfast it would make up for the room but we were sadly mistaken....when our scottish breakfast came the sausages were not fully cooked throughout and this kind of summed up our visit to this hotel....kind of a half hearted attempt to be something its not.
At checking out time we made our grievances clear and had our parking and drinks knocked off the bill along with breakfast so at least they tried to make up for discrepencies.
All staff were very helpful and friendly throughout our visit and im sure were doing their best at a busy time of year

We booked for our family in advance and could only get rooms on different floors, yet when we checked in the owner realised what the situation was straight away and, without being asked, offered us adjoining rooms, which were excellent. The hotel is boutique'ish with a vibrant bar and grill downstairs. Atmosphere is good, food is excellent, staff are really chatty and helpful, and the whole stay was really enjoyable.

Room Tip: Request a parking space when booking your room and you will be taken to an excellent underground car...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Carmelite is neatly positioned in the centre of Aberdeen's Merchant Quarter, which is adjacent to the transport hub of rail, bus, coach stations and harbour. The Merchant Quarter is the "grown up" area of the city, full of independent bars and restaurants, and surrounded by the city's 5 under-cover retail shopping centres. An historical Grade B listed building dating back to mid 1800's, Carmelite has undergone major refurbishment program over recent years, introducing a boutique environment on the ground floor of Carmelite Bar & Grill, whilst the 50 bedrooms offer a mix of "Designer" Suites and rooms on the 1st floor, "Dapper" rooms refurbished end of 2012, on the 2nd floor and comfortable standard rooms on the 3rd floor. These enable attractive rates to suit all budgets. Aberdeen is a commercial city, with limited accommodation mid-week, however weekends offer some fantastic deals making an alternative visitor experience very affordable. The 6 Suites are all different, and very quirky - from round beds in turrets, and gigantic sleigh beds, all designer rooms have cast iron baths, monsoon showers. The "Dapper" rooms have un-cluttered designs with a mix of large monsoon shower rooms, double ended steel baths (some designed with 'no taps'), and black-out window blinds. All the bespoke furniture in these rooms were made by A social Enterprise Company in Dundee, called Dovetail. The 3rd floor standard rooms, although not yet refurbished, offer clean, comfortable accommodation, still with all the usual amenities. All rooms have luxury beds made locally by Social Enterprise Aberdeen Company called Glencraft. Designer "Anatomicals" or "Keiji" bath products, 32/40" LED Samsung Freeview TVs, as well as clocks, iPhone docking stations, tea/coffee making facilities, and most rooms with iron and ironing boards. A room service menu is available during restaurant times. The ground floor also is a boutique environment, quirky with a large open plan lounge and dining area, with informal comfy sofas, a Baby Grand Piano playing at weekends, and a dining 4 Poster Bed. The comprehensive bar menu offers superb cocktails, 12 champagnes, and extensive wine and drinks as well as a bar nibbles food options. Menus cover breakfast and brunch from a "Wake Up till Noon" menu, then an A'la Carte "All Day Menu" available from 12noon through till dinner. There is a Shoppers Menu available till 5pm each day with £8 main courses, and a Market Menu options each evening. There are two event rooms, Library and Balmoral for delegates up to 120, private dining to 50 diners, and Mad Hatter Tea Parties from 20 people. Intoxicating Afternoon Teas are a specialty, as well as Rock & Roll Parties in the 4 Poster Bed. Free wi-fi is available throughout the building, with a PC available for guests' use in the library. ... more   less
