I have stayed over in the Highland a few times and must say it is very conviently located in the heart of the town centre away from the hustle and bustle of the pubs and shops. Rooms are comfortable and breakfast is adequate however it can get a bit noisy and the walls are very thin in some rooms. Would use again for a quick overnight.

Room Tip: Get a room at the back end of the building away from the main street if you can.

Spent a long weekend in Aberdeen staying at the highland in August. Currently being refurbished, rather dated feel, but homely. Great location, just off the main high road and within walking distance of shops, restaurants and the Maritime Museum. Only had breakfast, which was a bit disappointing as I expected local produce sourced by this family run hotel. The bacon and sausages were supermarket fare and the full breakfast Saturday and Sunday appeared as soon as it was ordered... Buffet style on Monday for the oil workers. Check in and out swift and efficient. Constant, very hot water and rooms kept clean and tidy. Noisy as we were at the back and by the bins, TV remote missing and it took until the next day to get a replacement. Hopefully new towels with the refit. Reasonably priced not sure if I would stay there again!

Room Tip: Not near the outside bar at the back.

Unlike other reviewers, I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The receptionist went to a lot of trouble to,accommodate my request for early access to my room. The room was, very clean with comfortable beds and all the facilities that I required. The buffet breakfast choice was a bit limited but never the less the food was hot and tasty. The location was first class with easy access to the town centre as well as the bus and train stations

Place is great. Great prices, great location, good atmosphere... Terrible staff. Doesn't take much for the staff to give you even a friendly nod, but not one of the many staff that was on smiled once. Made the full place feel a bit unwelcoming. Not sure if I would come back

Stayed in the apartments across from the main hotel only to find I was in the attic.
The room was small but nice enough, the downside been I was sharing a bathroom with the room next door. The bathroom hadn't been cleaned since the last people checked out as the room next to me was vacant at the time.
I've stayed in cheap B&B's with a shared bathroom but never a hotel.
I would have had a good nights sleep but was woken at 12 when the occupant of the next room came in and then left just before six.
Two pillows on a double bed was a bit tight too.
The next morning I noticed I couldn't have a cup if tea due to tea making point.
I did mention this to reception who said all rooms should have one?

I have stayed at the Highland for over a week and found it to be just fine. Friendly staff, clean rooms and perfectly fine bath. Is it elegant? No, but the location makes up for so much. Nice pubs in area with lots of good dining choices.
