“Old Aberdeen”

King's College Chapel
Ranked #11 of 160 things to do in Aberdeen
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 29 July 2013

Kings College, is situated in the historic area of Old Aberdeen and within minutes walk from St. Machar's Cathedral, along cobbled streets, and ending in the magnificent Seaton Park, where a lovely walk along the river will take you out at the Bridge over the mouth of the river Don and the area named for the Bridge. These impressive buildings are not to be missed along with the marvel of Marischal College, 10mins away in the Town Centre.

We went there on a rainy day and it was just lovely. Al the wooden interior is so well kept, really a nice place. We loved it.

This is the church to visit in Scotland if you want a good idea of what a late mediaeval church was really like here, as it has the best collection of original furnishings, with its screen, stalls, canopies, misericords, pulpits, roof and even altar still remaining from the early 16th century. Topped with the brilliant crown steeple, set in the picturesque old town, this is somewhere not to be missed in Scotland.

I am not a big fan of dreary looking churches but some people just light up a room. The new sermon-meister makes a dark night in Old Aberdeen glow. Of course, he has a tough act to follow in that an earlier Chaplain was several times Sermonperson of the year (or somesuch). Then there is his choice of straight man. Yep, the heritage and line of stars that stretches back to James Clerk Maxwell and a couple of Royalty fans before him is well honoured. Six-thirty-Sunday-searing
