Owner description: These beautiful sunken gardens afford great views of the city's sights.

Union Terrace Gardens is bang in the middle of the city. It sits low down from Union Square so it is easy to miss if you are walking along princess street. It isn't the brightest and most inviting park although pleasantly laid out. If you are looking for a place to sit on a park bench and watch the world go by or read a book then this is ideal. If you are looking for cafes or places of interest within the park then this is not that type of park. In the summer when the weather is warm it does provide a small oasis in the city.

This used to be a great place to walk through, sit and enjoy the sun, have a picnic, watch entertainers and so on. People live different lives now and it is now only used by down and outs and junkies.
The council had a great opportunity to turn this into a new modern space with a donation of £50m from a local oil baron, but lack the foresight to take the opportunity.
Ovoid this park at all times but certainly in the dark.

These vertiginous gardens may have been popular decades ago, but lack of facilities and the number of unsavoury characters that frequent the gardens means its a virtual nogo area. Only on a very sunny day when office workers sit there during lunch time would it be acceptable.

when i was a wee lad , me and my mum would come into aberdeen to do some shopping . then we would go down to the gardens to have a picnic ,whilst waiting to go home in the bus .... now you darent walk threw the gardens on your own ... thats coming from a bloke , i would be horrified if my daughter decided to walk threw there ... homeless and junkies ... time for an upgrade . so we can take our children there for a picnic and an adventure ...
