Always gomthere for a rest from shopping and have a picnic away from the hustle and bustle of Union St. So glad the move to destroy it was defeated

A nice place to sit and relax (weather permitting) I often like to sit in the summer with a coffee and read.
The green space adds to the city centre.
There can be a few degenerates hanging around as stated in other reviews but no more than Union Street in general.
Also if you're lucky you can sometimes get a (weak) wifi signal from Caledonian hotel if you sit on the bench closest to the east steps ;-)

Union Terrace Gardens is bang in the middle of the city. It sits low down from Union Square so it is easy to miss if you are walking along princess street. It isn't the brightest and most inviting park although pleasantly laid out. If you are looking for a place to sit on a park bench and watch the world go by or read a book then this is ideal. If you are looking for cafes or places of interest within the park then this is not that type of park. In the summer when the weather is warm it does provide a small oasis in the city.

This used to be a great place to walk through, sit and enjoy the sun, have a picnic, watch entertainers and so on. People live different lives now and it is now only used by down and outs and junkies.
The council had a great opportunity to turn this into a new modern space with a donation of £50m from a local oil baron, but lack the foresight to take the opportunity.
Ovoid this park at all times but certainly in the dark.
