This review could've been so much worse if it wasn't for The food and the chef who spoke to us about our allergy requirements .the service was appalling ,the blonde waitress was rude and spent more time talking to other staff than looking after customers .the good side of this review The food a vast improvement from other visits and the time and care that was taking to go through the menu soup was good followed by grilled salmon very moist and chicken balmoral where the chef made a sauce which I was able to take due to my allergy

Having eaten in here many many times over the years it has now gone so far downhill that it has become more like trying to eat your food while at a match at Pittodrie!!!! It is very obvious that the football takes priority for the owners rather than the food side of the business. If you want a nice peaceful meal in pleasant surroundings then do not go to the monkey house. All you will get there now is very noisy football commentary, very loud and very often foul language from the said match being shown combined with slow service by a couple of young girls who are more interested in hiding behind the bar instead of interacting with their customers. On our recent visit with 4 friends, we all had the soup to start which was some kind of mix of broccoli and meant to be stilton, but sadly didn't taste of anything really and it was luke warm followed by 6 main courses, all quite basic stuff - fish and chips, scampi, steak pie, 2 Cajun salmon and a salad. The fish was good although extremely greasy, scampi was outnumbered by quite literally dozens and dozens of chips with a mountain of salad, steak pie again was adequate but why would you put the gray boat in the middle of a plate of food??? Rubbish presentation, the 2 salmon were almost very good if one had not been quite obviously placed on the plate to cover up the fact it was well burnt on the other side and as for the salad, still trying to work out what type of salad it was as all it appeared to be was a huge pile of salad leaves with some mixed peppers thrown in for good measure. All said and done, we definitely will not be returning and will be telling all our friends to avoid this place unless they are into FOOTBALL!!!!

Food is general pub grub, something for everyone, the Cajun salmon was very nice although I wasn't impressed with the frozen chips which didn't seem like they have been cooked long enough. Service was quite bad on a not too busy lunchtime, the 2 girls seemed to hide away at the bar most of the time and certainly wasn't in any rush when you asked for something.

Great place for a pint to relax and unwind after a hectic shopping trip! Nice old fashioned decor and a good atmosphere make this one of my favourite pubs to visit in Aberdeen.
