We read the reviews about Marcliff at Pitfodels and were looking forward to our stay. We were expecting a special treat, and we were disappointed. I realize this hotel is closing, but it is tired. Clearly, it was a special place at one time in the late 90's.

There was no doorman at the front when we arrived, and we had to find someone to help us with our bags.

Our room was spacious, but the furniture, especially the chairs had stains and the fabric was discolored after much use. It gave the impression the room wasn't really clean. The carpet was worn with stains as well. The closets are a nice size, and there is an in room safe.

The hallways to the rooms are very narrow and wind around like mazes with low ceilings.

The food was fine, but if you have a time for dinner reservations, they will seat you in the bar for a drink for half an hour first at your reserved dinner time. They provide you with a dinner menu while you are seated in the bar area and take your dinner order there. When they are ready for you, they take you in to your table to seat you.

The spa is basically a nail station next to the reception desk, two rooms for treatments, and a small room for haircuts/treatments...very small.

There is nothing within walking distance so you definitely need a car or driver if you wish to go anywhere else.

This hotel is not on the same level as Gleneagles or The Links Hotel in Dornoch.it is definitely better than many hotels in Scotland.

My husband and I just stayed hear for a treat and what a treat.
We had an amazing suite which was immaculate you could off eaten your food of the bathroom floor. We had the use of Molton Brown toiletries, lots of complimentary soft drinks, chocolates and a fresh fruit basket in our suite.
The service of the staff was impeccable
The food was the icing on the cake. We choose to have the Chatiabriand for our main course words cannot describe the taste and texture it was like cutting butter just amazing. We cannot wait to go back.

After our transatlantic flight we were greeted by a friendly staff and checked in quickly. Rooms were spacious (In comparison) to other hotel rooms in the United Kingdom. The grounds were enjoyable and food was nicely prepared and presented. Hot water was readily available in the bathroom which is always a big plus!. We were there for a business conference and they supplied us with all we needed without any hiccups.

Easily the best hotel north of gleneagles. Service, dinning, and overall quality was excellent. We were made to feel comfortable and relaxed from the moment we arrived, just a shame we could stay longer.
