Staff very attentive, surroundings gorgeous such a shame its going to be no more. The food was excellent , the suite was beautiful ,real attention to detail. It certainly is slightly more expensive but i do believe you get what you pay for. The building and grounds are beautiful. Full of ambiance and romance.

This hotel provides one of the best dining experiences possible. It does this for both small family groups and also at large corporate functions where none of the quality is diminished. It provides the classic older hotel / building type experience that is hard to replictae.

A table for five was reserved for 20:30. We arrived at 19:45 and were not served our started till 21:40!

Comments from a female staff member before we were shown to out table "I bet you are starving!" Added insult.

This was a special birthday celebration and we were left feeling very disappointed

Service poor but food was excellent.

The Marcliffe will be closing later this year - the end of a much loved era. My husband and I had lunch here twice in recent months and paid handsomely for it ( didn't get much change of £80 each time which included a bottle of wine).

Not cheap so you expect the best service. We'd booked ahead but on each occasion we were left sitting in the bar for half an hour and more after the time of our reservation. The bar staff / waiters were really not very attentive or on the ball.

However things improved dramatically when a member of staff called Lee took over and led us through to the dining room. What a gem of a chap - courteous, efficient and professional whilst also being friendly and non pretentious ( a difficult balance which he managed to get just right ) . The lady who served us with our meal told us that she'd been working for the hotel owner for something like 40 years and she too was worth her weight in gold ( a lovely local person who knew her job inside out )

Food was good enough but lacked something ( you can take minimalistic presentation too far ) and we expected more finesse for the prices charged. The dining room was all but empty on both occasions we lunched there though they seemed to be busy in the drawing room serving impressive looking afternoon teas to large groups of well heeled mature ladies. It's that kind of place.

The Marcliffe is a splendid establishment, beautifully furnished to the highest standard. It has the WOW factor for sure and it's heartbreaking to know it will be bulldozed at some point in the next year or so. There is nowhere like it. However, in the meantime, some staff need to up their game a bit as people still want to eat there and remember it fondly when it's gone ..... This is no time to be resting on laurels ! Go out with a BANG and be remembered for the quality and attention to service that you've been renowned for for so long :)

I stayed in the Marcliffe for a celebration with my fiancee. I found slightly annoying that there was a wedding going on and I could hear the music from my room. Also my room was boiling hot and we were given a fan that was as noisy as a tractor. Apart from these small details we found it all very good, the service was awesome, the staff in very polite and helpfull. The room was clean, big and modern (I read some reviews about old furniture but I don't agree, so probably things were renewed).

We attended a fantastic christening at the hotel and stayed on for a couple of nights. This small family run hotel is absolutely fantastic - great weekend rates - large plush rooms - comfy beds - fruit and well stocked mini bars.

But what really makes this hotel is the long serving staff - without fault from checkin to checkout - they are world class and take a real interest in you and the family.

The hotel has massive grounds for the kids to run around and the drinks and food in the conservatory restaurant are some of the best in Scotland.

We came away with our expectations massively exceeded - just such a shame that the hotel will close its doors in November...
