Speedbird Inn, Aberdeen Airport
Ranked #54 of 65 Hotels in Aberdeen
Reviewed 24 July 2014

I have stayed in the Speedbird on a few occasions simply because of its location to airport and car hire. Each time I arrive with optimism that things will have improved and each time I have been disappointed. The rooms are basic - even the club rooms, and impersonal. The bed in the club room is a basic double, I would have expected at least a king. No comfy topper on the mattress so less of a comfy sleep. The restaurant is lacklustre with dark wood dated furniture. The service is adequate and the food even less so. I have on previous occasions had to return dishes as inedible. On this occasion, the food was just about edible. They did not have the sea bass so ordered the tiger prawns and ginger noodles. Some of the prawns were not cooked and as for garlic bread, I had a first - two slices of toasted whole meal bread with I presume garlic butter spread over them. Additionally, I had to point out to the waitress the seriously short measure on the red wine. It's not that this hotel is inexpensive, far from it, but it certainly is not value for money. Will remind myself of this feedback the next time I need to stay and will definitely book elsewhere

Dear Lorraine,

Thank you for your review. I am sorry to read that you were unhappy with your stay last Thursday night. The Supervisor and Head Chef remember your feedback about your prawns after you finished your meal. This surprised them, as your feedback when we checked during your meal was OK. Your garlic bread was white bloomer bread, toasted with garlic butter - we don't use wholemeal bread for this side order.

Your feedback indicates that you may not return to the hotel, which would be a shame. If, however, you choose to return then please don't hesitate to tell the team at the time if there's anything we can do to improve your experience, as you did with the wine measure. I am sorry that you were not initially served a proper measure; rest assured that the Attendant who served you has been reminded of this.

I do hope that we see you again, and I look forward to your subsequent feedback.

Kind regards
Frank Whitaker

Arrived quite late on a flight from London, called for the shuttle bus which arrived no problem, had issues with this before and had to get a taxi. Check in pleasant. Had a drink in the bar, where the barman was a jolly soul.

If you have a reason to stay overnight at Aberdeen Airport, the Speedbird is a good choice. It is a couple of minutes walk from the terminal and is clean, quiet and comfortable. At £65 per night B&B, I thought it was good value for money. I particularly appreciated being able to check in and occupy a room at 10.00 am, which allowed me to freshen up before my meeting. I also enjoyed the opportunity to order fish and chips from the restaurant and eat it in my room. The staff were helpful and pleasant in both reception and the restaurant.

The last three times we've gone to Scotland, we've stayed here. We always fly into Aberdeen because we're touring the Highlands and Islands. After a long flight, the last thing we want to do is drive on the left side of the road, so we spend our first night at the hotel right next to the airport. The car rental place is right there as well, so it's just extremely convenient for us. The rooms are small but extremely clean. The staff is so nice and helpful. This hotel may not work for everyone, but it does for us.

The Speedbird Inn is a very convenient and ideally located hotel at Aberdeen Airport, being just a short walk from the terminal building. I found the rooms to be very comfortable if not basic. The food in the restaurant/bar was fantastic, this is an ideal airport hotel with friendly and helpful staff.

If you are wanting a basic hotel near the airport and can get a good rate. This is the place for you.

Staff were friendly and helpful, but the building itself is a bit depressing in a modern community centre style. I enjoyed the breakfast and once again the staff were great

Rooms are spacious, clean and quite impressive. The clientele appeared to be exclusively oil and gas workers, so i guess they will always be busy due to the location and proximity to the airport.

Stayed one night to get early Wed flight (0600) to Amsterdam. £100 paid in advance for room only was not cheap! Hotel gas restaurant/bar attached but bar was not appealing and not hungry after sandwich en route from Inverness. Room clean and basic but perfectly OK. No safe or mini-bar. Five mins walk to terminal via hire car car park so went to WH Smith for drink+sandwich.

Courtesy bus to terminal but decided to stroll as, at 0458, the driver was only planning to do the 2 minute trip at 0515... If you can't walk it, you might like to know there is no lift - stick to ground floor!

Room Tip: No lift to upper floor!

Thank you for your review. The hotel always aims to deliver competitive pricing in the Aberdeen Airport market. Your Tuesday night Advance Purchase Rate of £100 represents a 20% discount off the more flexible Best Available Rate as you booked considerably in advance of your stay. A cheaper hotel room price on what is a key night of the week would be difficult to find.

The hotel's courtesy bus runs every 15 minutes to a variety of destinations. Guests are asked at check-in if they need transport in the morning with a seat booked in their name if they do. Your comments indicate that the bus was booked for a different run at 5am but would have been able to take you after that. It is a good idea to book transport when you check in, especially if you're tight for time in the morning.

Kind regards
