My grandaughter and i stayed here for two nights, overall we enjoyed our stay, the room was clean and had all that was required in it, it was the corridoors which was looking very tired, lots of gaffer tape on the carpets, staff very friendly apart from the cook who could do to smile more.,very good price.

Room Tip: rooms on the south side

Upon arrival, a cracked driveway greets you and immediately makes you warey of this place. However, one of the saving graces of this place is the entrance and reception which is open and bright and the receptionists were fairly friendly. The room was basic but comfortable and practical but the door only locked with a latch and therefore could easily be pushed open- it looked as though they had tried to replace a previous broken lock. The hotel itself needs a lot of work to make it pleasing to the eye again (things like wallpaper peeling off, paint cracked on the windowsill). We booked bed and breakfast for 2 days and the first morning breakfast was chaotic. The hotel had coach loads of people arrive the night before and obviously hadn't prepared for the vast amounts of people all arriving for breakfast at the same time- they ran out of food, tables were not cleared quickly enough for people to sit at them, the waitresses forgot to bring the tea over, plates were not were they should be. However, one waitress was friendly and did really try to apologise- the cook, perhaps to be expected, was extremely grumpy. It's a shame as the next day breakfast was quite nice and the service was much better- they just needed a lot more organisation on the previous morning. Overall it is basic and practical.

Business users only if you can't get anywhere else. Very tired hotel needs complete overall. All the surfaces in my room where either scratched or tarnished. The bathroom was falling apart. Cooked breakfast was lukewarm. The mattress was like sleeping on the floor, very firm. Would not recommend.

Staff where nice a friendly and the food was good, if a bit slow to arrive. Breakfast seemed to be run entirely by the chef. The gym and spa was defiantly the highlight. The hotel is situated a fair way out of Peterhead but there is a footpath in to town. The décor is dated and in places carpet is held together with well applied duct tape. The room itself was clean apart from some stubborn stains but the bath panel was hanging off. I wouldn't hold out too much hope for the complementary internet unless your room is on the ground floor. I did have a good sleep, the hotel surroundings being silent, and the curtains worked against the Scottish summer all night twilight. There is ample car parking.

Room Tip: Apparently the ground floor rooms have that unfinished bare brick feel to them.

The overall look of the hotel is worn out/ the inside smells like an old folks home and the furnishings are extremely dated. The hotel needs to be dragged into the 21st centaury- The staff didn't seem to have a clue- one person on reception/ same person taking dinner res and serving meals. One man band. also was charged twice for stay as card was pre authorised and extra sale was taken- taking up to 7 days to get money back!! Bar staff didn't have any experience, I actually had to go behind bar and help her put an new bottle on optic as she was spilling it everywhere- no training been given obviously- if there was- (prob be by the One man band staff member) shocking service. Apauled

My husband and I stayed at the Waterside Hotel in Peterhead recently. It is now part of the Britannia Group, and as it is local hotel that we have used in the past, we were interested to see what changes had been made with the change of ownership. We had taken advantage of a Groupon voucher to get a good deal, but due to unexpected ill health, were unable to take our stay as originally planned. We thought that as the deal was non-transferrable, we would lose out, but the General Manager, Karen Day, was most helpful, and allowed us to change the date of our stay with no problem. On arrival, we checked in, and found our welcome bottle of sparkling wine ready and waiting in our room. The furniture in the room was a little tired, as are other areas in the hotel, but we understand that updating and refurbishing is ongoing, and as we had only paid £39,00 for our stay, to include dinner and breakfast, we had not expected luxury. However, the service we received was excellent, both in the leisure area, and the restaurant. We made full use of the swimming pool, steam and sauna suites, and the jacuzzi. The area could with a lick of paint, and some of the roof tiles need replacing, but this is all cosmetic. The pool was clean and warm, and the changing areas equipped with toiletries and hairdryers. The food in the restaurant offered us a good choice of starters, with carver for main course. The beef and gammon were succulent, and there was a good selection of vegetables, with home made yorkshire puddings to die for!. Portions were generous, enough to fill the hungriest of people, and if the carvery was not to your liking, there was a fish and a chicken choice too. We were too full for dessert, but were told we could take it to our room, to have later, a perfect way to finish. Breakfast the next morning was just as satisfying, with juices, cereals, croissants etc as well as the full cooked breakfast, with a choice of fried or scrambled eggs. Another swim and steam, and we left for home, feeling relaxed, and well please with our value for money break. We have since been back for a Sunday lunch, which had the addition of a sorbet course, a refreshing cleanse to the palate. As before, the staff in the restaurant were attentive, and efficient, and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the refurbished rooms, as the others are a little tired, and in need of updating.
