Love this restaurant- great location, delicious food and brilliant service. I go with my disabled brother at least twice a month. I’ve never written a review before but felt I had to. My brother has Spina Bifida, so is in a wheelchair. He has a real disability and the staff at the Boatyard couldn’t be more thoughtful or considerate. The restaurant is very wheelchair friendly with lots of room. Its just a great place to spend an evening.

Been a regular customer for over 4 years and always enjoyed going for a coffee and light bite however today's attitude by who I can only assume was the manager was awful.
We have been puppy walkers for the guide dogs for the blind for many years and part of the puppy training is to socialise the dog in a range of environments. We often visit the old boatyard with the dog and were made welcome by the staff but that all changed today.
We were approached by a member of staff and told that we weren't welcome with the dog and would have to leave. We explained to him that it was a guide dog puppy (8 months old) and we had been coming here for years with guide dogs and knew all of the staff. We asked if it was a guide dog with a visual impaired person if they would have to leave, he replied YES he would tell them to leave, discrimination alive and well in the old boathouse. We were shocked and taken aback with his attitude and asked again about about a person who was visually impaired, he thought about it this time, seemed to sense he needed to think about it for a bit then conceded that it would be okay for them to stay! We asked again about guide dog puppies, however his view was all that mattered to him and he obviously has no time for anyone who is trying to assist people with disabilities.
We will not be going to a business that shows such a discriminatory attitude despite having been a customer for years, indeed our last visit was during the week with no problems.
He needs to do a customer training course on how to deal with public and adopt a positive attitude rather than one that is confrontational and obnoxious.

We went there after our B&B hosts booked a table for us. Service was very good, we had a nice table with sea view, our drinks and food came very quickly. The food, local seafood, was really good, couldn't have been much better. It is not more expensive than other seafood restaurants. If you want fresh lobster and scallops and mussels with a nice view of the sea - go there!

Went here for snack lunch. Waitress forgot to return after giving us menus, tea for two turned into one and a half as the amount was minimal, two cheesecakes with one fork between us and sandwich never arrived. Watched a couple with a guide dog being refused entry as some rude gentleman insisted that rules are rules. Sat unattended for ages and in the end left after an hour. Raised our concerns at the till but the waiter was uninterested in our concern. Customer service stinks. Full price charged but another 2 customers lost. Would not advise anyone to go here.

We decided to book a table of 15 for a wedding anniversary at The Old Boatyard. A small minority of us had visited this restaurant before but the majority of us hadn't so were eager to try this popular location. We were split into two tables, and quite far apart they were too. These were round plastic tables so it was not like we could even push the tables together to eat all together for the occasion - quite disappointing. The tables had white tablecloths over them but we were given no coasters for our drinks - by the end of the meal the table was stained by marks left by our drinks; it just looked messy! The food was fabulous, really could not be faulted. Most of both tables had the Haddock & Chips from the Sunday High Tea Menu and it really was lovely - apart from the fact the meals were brought out at really disorientated times. One table had finished their meal by the time the others had even been presented with theirs. After our main meals we were provided with cakes and tea/coffee. We were expected to eat our cakes off the same side plates we had our toast on at the very start of the meal - we were not given a replacement, so those who had given their side plates to the waiter after the toast had to eat their cakes off of napkins. I had a cup of tea with my cakes, and the cup was not washed. At all! a number of the cups around our table still had mouth marks around the rim and stains on the inside. By the time we had finished our cakes (which were lovely also), the waiters brought us new cutlery to eat the cakes with, just a bit too late, we had eaten them with our hands already - and im glad we did, almost every bit of cutlery was dirty! I was quite disappointed by this experience. The food was lovely! I maybe would have enjoyed it if it had been a small table of maybe 2-4 people, but it definitely was not ideal for a party of 15. It just seemed a bit unorganised.
