We stayed in the Aboukir Hotel in May 2013 for one night on our way back from the Highlands. After being turned down from at least 4 B&Bs because of my wife’s guide dog, we were happy to find a place after all which accepts dogs.
It turned out to be an okay stay.
The check in was a bit strange at first, because we had to walk with our luggage through the patrons in the pub, but we were soon taken into a separate room where we discussed the details. The staff was always friendly and helpful.
We had the huge room on the first floor, which was really spacious, including the bath. The interior was okay, it was clean except for the mirror which carried a thick layer of dust. Due to being close to the ground floor, it was a bit noisy until the pub closed – after that it was quiet.
We got up very early because we had a long drive ahead of us and had the feeling that it was uncommon to have breakfast so early (although within the official hours). The pub area was still being cleaned up, deliveries being loaded into the kitchen. Still, we got our cooked breakfast and had enough choice to have a good start in the day.
Overall, we would stay in the Aboukir again, but try to get a room a bit further up.
