“Needs redecorating and alot of TLC”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 May 2014

Stayed the hotel for two nights at end April 2014.

Reception staff (woman) unfriendly and looked down her nose at us and the workman who checked in before us, however the rest of reception staff were lovely as were all the other hotel staff.

Reception and lounge etc nice and drinks reasonably priced for a hotel. On exiting the elevator at our floor we were greeted by a different story! Wallpaper peeling off, cracks in walls, paintwork chipped, rattly old ice machine and a damp smell not to mention the blue and yellow colour scheme!! Our room was clean however furniture was chipped, bathroom ceiling mouldy and walls in room grubby. External areas and patio needed some weedkiller as weeds were growing everywhere. I think the hotel is living on the history of having held the Open several times but looking at it it probably hasn't been decorated since it was last held at the course in 2007 and is definatley not 4 star anymore which i think is backed up with the amount of workerman type customers who stay in the hotel overnight (car park full of vans too).

Room Tip: Try and get a room with a view over the golf course as the carpark at the rear is not an inspiring v...

We had one night only on Thursday, front of house staff lovely, the room was very clean and the shower great. We had a meal in the bar area which was good, breakfast the following morning was lovely too. We didn't have a chance to use the pool due to having to leave very early but we would both definitely like a longer stay and hope to go back again.

The hotel is perfectly situated for any golf fan, 3 world class golf courses on your door step. The actual hotel is a little dated and the rooms are a bit small. Had a burger for tea which was exceptional and the breakfast was very nice. Pretty good value but nothing too special.

Was a bit worried about coming to Carnoustie golf hotel based in other reviews
While the rooms are not 4 star
No bath robe limited toiletries (will need to ask for more)
Room is very clean just the bit of popcorn under dressing table let it down
Front of house service is worthy of 4 star
Will up date on restaurant after dinner

We stayed here in March and had a lovely weekend, but the décor seriously needs updating. We had a room that had stains on chairs, carpets and floors. But the room itself had been well cleaned and shower over the bath was powerful. The breakfast was lovely and very well presented. Staff were very attentive. I would say that the price we paid reflected the fact that this hotel requires updating.

Stayed here couple nights with friends and although it's starting to look a bit worse for wear it does represent good value.Rooms are a decent size, spa is fine and staff are friendly.never ate in restaurant as it was fully booked both nights but a decent bar menu and food was well cooked and tasty although a bit pricey.Breakfast was ok although cooked breKfast to order was above average.
