“Curry 'Carryout' Virgin”
Reviewed 13 October 2012 via mobile

Visited while caravanning in Forfar after reading reviews on T Advisor. This being a first Indian carryout ever after enjoying 1st Indian meal several weeks ago ! Although choice was for mild dish with plain naan sauce was lovely and creamy with large chunks of succulent chicken and fruit ,naan was freshly made and tasty. Staff were very pleasant and service quick also 20% discount on takeaway collection very good value for money.

“Great curry”
Reviewed 30 September 2012

Thought since we had been living in Forfar for a few months we'd better visit one or two of the local restaurants. I've often driven or ran past the Bengal and thought "must go there some time". Well we did last Saturday and were pleasantly surprised.

Although very quiet (we went early evening) there seemed to be a steady stream of people coming in for take aways.

Good selection of starters and mains. Most mains were £10-14 and didn't include rice or nans etc. We both had chicken and it certainly seemed to be chicken breast (which was incredibly moist) rather than the reformed chicken you seem to find more now. My wife and myself both agreed that our mains were delicious and seemed very authentic. Peshwari nan was lush and big enough for two and id recommend the coconut rice.

More guests came in later. I think the restaurant would benefit from creating a more intimate eating environment with little booths etc but this would only be a minor criticism.

Very friendly staff, great food and we hope to make a regular visit to this little gem of an Indian.

“A decent restaurant at last”
Reviewed 18 September 2012

A warm welcome , attentive service in pleasant surroundings , a good start.
Years of being served appalling food in Forfar restaurants had left us with poor expectations . What a surprise and delight to find that this restaurant has a chef who clearly cares about what he puts on the plate . Aromatic and delicately spiced
dishes with tender meat . No sign of the bland chicken or bright orange food colouring so beloved by other Forfar establishments. Drinks priced closer to pub than restaurant levels . Complimentary orange segments at the end of the meal , and a personal thank you and goodbye from staff ,were nice little touches to end the evening . That was our first visit and I am very happy to report that we have returned and the experience was every bit as good. We will be back.
Note: The Bengal has been around for approx a year .Please don't confuse this restaurant with the Rupali which is a different restaurant and sadly now a very bad one.
